This is a full-time, project based, position that will continue through the duration of the project contract with an anticipated conclusion on or before December 31, 2027.
About the Role Foss Maritime is seeking a skilled and motivated
Marine Designer
to support a wide range of challenging and rewarding projects within our Technical Engineering Division. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of cutting‑edge marine vessels and infrastructure, working alongside experienced naval architects and engineers.
What You’ll Do
Provide drafting and design services under the guidance of senior staff.
Independently develop detailed design drawings from rough sketches and specifications.
Apply knowledge of materials, structures, and mechanical systems to marine design.
Create 2D and 3D drawings for vessel arrangements, outfitting, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.
Support both new vessel designs and modification/refurbishment projects.
Assist in design services for domestic and international marine transportation projects.
Collaborate on civil engineering and construction projects related to waterfront and marine infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Coordinate with shipyards, contractors, and regulatory bodies during construction phases.
Contribute to the advancement of drafting standards and templates.
What We’re Looking For
3–5 years of drafting and design experience in the maritime industry.
Proficiency in AutoCAD (minimum 3 years).
Experience with Rhino3D or similar 3D modeling software.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
Strong understanding of commercial vessel design and marine systems.
Ability to develop contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

What We Offer Compensation:
Marine Designer I: $25.37–$38.06 per hour
Marine Designer II: $28.19–$42.19 per hour

Life insurance equal to two times annual base salary.
Accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Long‑term disability insurance.
401(k) program with a 4% match, vested immediately.

Other voluntary benefits available for purchase via payroll deduction at group rates.
Vacation – 10 days per year with a maximum accrual of 160 hours. Accrued vacation will be vested and available for use after six (6) months of service.
Nine (9) paid holidays with two (2) additional floating holidays after six (6) months of service.
Full‑time employees accrue ninety‑six (96) hours of sick leave per year, up to a maximum of 1,040 hours.
Bereavement leave – three (3) paid days off for a death in the immediate family, or five (5) days off if travel greater than 500 miles is required.
All other benefits as required by state law.
