Job Overview As a member of our growing Stormwater and Green Infrastructure team, you will use your design experience and education to perform advanced stormwater management, evaluate potential drainage system improvements, identify appropriate vegetation uses, devise irrigation systems, and support the development and optimization of stormwater drainage and treatment projects, including pilot studies, white papers, and other efforts to research or develop stormwater quality systems or new stormwater technologies.

Detailed Description In this role, you will work closely with our technical experts, project teams, and client service managers to advance our technical services and support business development on a wide variety of stormwater projects for primarily public sector clients. Typical projects could involve:

Typical Projects Include

Developing a design for handling runoff from roadways, land developments, industrial sites, municipal properties, and other land uses

Designing vegetation selection and uses for supporting aesthetic elements and erosion control (permanent and temporary) in support of roadways, land developments, industrial sites, municipal properties, and other land uses

Creating or updating plans, specifications, and estimates to forward green infrastructure and stormwater improvements that create multi-beneficial projects for urban and suburban communities

Preparing review comments on staff level products and direction on resources, tools, and methods for developing reports, treatment control design, permit applications, and solving water quality issues on transportation, land development, industrial, and other land use projects

Assisting with stormwater studies and alternatives analysis, especially with an emphasis on vegetation selections and uses

Working closely with existing staff and subcontractors on technical solutions, investigations, and auditing client procedures, infrastructure, and databases to improve overall planning, design, construction, and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure

Job Expectations

Creation of landscape and stormwater design details, plans, and estimates, including supporting reports, technical memorandums, data sources, and calculations

Participate with project teams in developing solutions and approaches to solving stormwater management problems

Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations, and conceptual designs

Manipulation and analysis of data using spreadsheets and other software tools

Occasional travel to project and client sites for data collection and meetings

Review and guide the work of a project team through quality assurance, mentoring, and advisory review

Assist in technical portion of proposal preparation by developing work approach, schedule and level of effort for planning pursuits, as well as answering client questions

Review the work of others by giving advice and recommend changes, alternatives, and enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and presentation of work products

Participate in client development activities

Coordinate and execute assignments to achieve client goals within scope, schedule, and budget constraints

Collaborate with other subject matter experts and technology vendors on treatment systems, and materials (esp. soil media and vegetation). Work with a team to develop guidance, training, and support materials to solve specific use cases

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Desired Skills and Experience

Master's degree in landscape architecture with underlying bachelor's degree in ecosystem ecology, soil science, forestry, or geology

California Landscape Architect license of at least 10 years

Qualified SWPPP Developer certification

Advanced knowledge of stormwater treatment and related vegetation and media, especially that related to highways and roadways

Ability to work effectively as a member of a team

10 years of directly-related experience in planning, design, and construction support of stormwater and landscape related project elements

Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare effective written documents

Organizational and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail

Experience with transportation and municipal storm drainage infrastructure, especially stormwater quality and green infrastructure elements

Proficiency with data management and related software packages a plus (e.g., Basin Sizer, RUSLE2, BAHM-IMP, Excel), especially those defined in Caltrans Guidance Manuals related to stormwater treatment design or landscape architecture

Ability to guide and direct project staff on the use of Caltrans and Bay Area Stormwater Management Agencies Association procedures related to stormwater management, vegetation uses, and development of alternative procedures

Salary Range The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location C Salary: $90.00 - $110.00 hourly
