Systems Development Engineer - Content Automation & Learning Systems
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
AWS Training & Certification (T&C) is seeking a Systems Development Engineer II (SysDE 2) to build and scale automation systems that improve the efficiency, resiliency, and quality of AWS learning content delivery. In this role, you will design, implement, and operate solutions that use AI, machine learning, and automation frameworks to accelerate content creation, maintenance, and refresh workflows across AWS platforms such as Content Studio, LCMS, and Skill Builder. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Software Development Engineers, and Curriculum Developers to build resilient, highly automated systems that improve metadata accuracy, automate content updates, and reduce operational effort.
Key Responsibilities
Design and deliver automation systems that simplify and scale content creation and maintenance workflows.
Build resilient pipelines and tools integrating AWS services (Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, Athena) to automate validation, publishing, and refresh cycles.
Identify and eliminate manual processes by creating durable, secure, and cost‑efficient system mechanisms.
Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews; contribute to operational readiness reviews and post‑incident analyses.
Improve operational health and reliability through instrumentation, telemetry, and monitoring dashboards.
Collaborate with engineers and Product teams to balance short‑term delivery with long‑term scalability and cost efficiency.
Contribute to documentation and best practices that raise the technical bar for automation across T&C.
Day in the Life The Systems Development Engineer collaborates with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and Curriculum Developers to design and deliver automation systems that improve the efficiency and quality of AWS training content. Each day involves building and maintaining AI‑driven pipelines that detect stale content, automate refresh workflows, and enhance publishing reliability. The engineer partners with internal customers across Content Studio, LCMS, and Skill Builder to reduce manual processes, increase scalability, and ensure seamless learner experiences. They balance hands‑on coding, system design, and operational excellence to make AWS content delivery faster and smarter.
About the Team As part of AWS Training and Certification, Core Curriculum builds and manages the world’s most complete, current, and compelling portfolio of cloud training content. The portfolio spans thousands of learning experiences covering hundreds of discrete AWS services, delivered in 22 languages. The team leads the generative‑AI revolution with investments in AI and technical automation to increase coverage and reach of the training portfolio and meet customer expectations for choice and personalization.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience.
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
Experience identifying bugs in architecture, algorithms, functionality, and performance with strong debugging skills.
Knowledge of concepts such as system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience building and maintaining data flows and pipelines.
Experience with machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, natural language processing, or computer architecture.
Experience developing operational processes and technologies.
AWS certification such as Solutions Architect or a similar cloud certification.
