NATURE OF WORK

The Audio-Video Communications Specialist maintains, diagnoses, and repairs complex audio, video, telecommunications, and scoreboard systems at Oriole Park and M&T Bank Stadium.

The role ensures reliable operation of digital control rooms, LED video boards, production cameras, distributed sound systems, IPTV/MATV, intercoms, voice/data networks, and related cabling infrastructure. Responsibilities include hands‑on technical expertise, preventive maintenance, event‑day support, coordination with broadcast media, and collaboration with vendors and stadium partners.

Employees receive moderate supervision from the MSA Technical Manager or designated officer.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair digital video control rooms, large‑scale LED video boards, production cameras, content management systems, and HD distribution equipment.
  • Service distributed sound systems, including amplifiers, speakers, audio mixing consoles, digital signal processors, and networked audio protocols (Dante, MADI, AES67).
  • Operate and troubleshoot AV control systems and protocols such as Crestron, Q‑SYS, and BSS.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, software updates, data backups, and network management for audio, video, and telecommunications systems.
  • Support audio/visual engineering needs during sporting and special events, coordinating with broadcast media and vendors.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment, including phone systems, cabling, and fiber networks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics for AV and low‑voltage wiring, integrating new equipment and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Prepare documentation, maintenance records, and reports using central facilities management software.
  • Assist in the design, installation, enhancement, and expansion of AV systems, and support procurement of necessary equipment and materials.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, colleagues, and stadium partners to ensure smooth operations and maintain professional standards.
  • Enforce wire management policies and integrate with other facility departments for related maintenance tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of digital and analog audio/video technologies, including production cameras, switchers, servers, routers, and distributed sound systems.
  • Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing/switching, firewalls, network security, DHCP, OSI model).
  • Knowledge of broadcast and AV control systems and protocols (Crestron, Q‑SYS, BSS, Dante, MADI, AES67).
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems, cabling infrastructure, fiber optics, and signal flow.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and system backup procedures for AV, IT, and telecommunications equipment.
  • Skill in diagnosing and repairing complex broadcast, audio, video, and telecommunications equipment.
  • Skill in interpreting and updating technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Skill in using test instruments such as meters, scopes, and monitors for troubleshooting.
  • Skill in coordinating with broadcast media and supporting live events with reliable technical operations.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills for reports, records, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to perform technical work at heights, in confined spaces, and under physically demanding conditions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, vendors, and stadium partners.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to operational issues, especially during live sporting and special events.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary facility teams.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and assist in the design and installation of new systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

General Qualifications

  • Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., walk long distances, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during events as required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Commitment to safety, facility standards, and professional engineering practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in broadcast engineering or related technology.
    • Substitutions for experience: Professional Engineer license = 4 years of experience; Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years; Associate’s Degree = 2 years; Accredited related education (e.g., military) = year-for-year up to 4 years.
  • Knowledge of digital and analog audio/video systems, telecommunications, and networking fundamentals.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting AV control systems, cameras, video boards, sound systems, intercoms, and associated cabling/wiring.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance, software updates, and system backups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of 2110 digital video, video encoding/transport, and both digital and analog audio.
  • Familiarity with AV and broadcast equipment from manufacturers such as Ross, Evertz, Riedel, RTS, Q‑SYS, BSS, Sony, Fujinon, Canon, Panasonic, Yamaha.
  • Experience using meters, scopes, and monitors for troubleshooting.
  • Certified fiber termination and maintenance training.
  • Certified computer networking skills (A+ and Network+ preferred).
  • Professional certifications
    • Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE): CBNT, CBNE, CVE, CAE, CPT
    • BICSI: RCDD
    • AVIXA: CTS, ANP
    • Electronic Systems Professional Alliance: ETS

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work may be performed in a standard office setting with frequent travel to worksite locations. Employees may be required to be present indoors or outdoors in extreme heat or cold. The noise level is usually moderate but may be occasionally loud due to alarms, equipment noise, etc. Extended hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

Physical demands include walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, operating office equipment, and occasionally traveling by vehicle. Requires climbing ladders, working at heights, lifting up to 50 lbs., and walking long distances.

WORK HOURS

Forty-hour minimum work week. Must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays as required to support events.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees may be required to operate a motor vehicle and must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
