WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non-Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of facilitating the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Code sections 87482.5, Instructors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Ventura College was established in 1925 and is located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. The campus sits on 112 acres in the rolling hills of Ventura with views toward the Channel Islands. More information is available on the Ventura College website.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance-mediated instructional settings. Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate. Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes; provide timely feedback in response to inquiries in class, online, or during established office hours. Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes; implement the student performance objectives listed on the official course outline of record. Maintain current records of enrollment, attendance, progress, curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner. Evaluate and select instructional materials; order materials to ensure timely delivery. Revise and update course content and materials in line with new theory, application, and industry developments. Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators. May participate in curriculum and program development and in articulation and matriculation activities. May provide work direction to others. Perform related duties as assigned.

Note: E = Essential Duties. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

Qualifications Master’s degree in Film/Cinema and Media Studies, Film, Television, and Media Studies, Drama/Theater, Mass Communication OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in Visual Studies, Media Studies, English, or Communication OR the equivalent; OR possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline. Equivalency The district recognizes that candidates may attain expertise through various means. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equivalent to the stated minimum qualifications. If transcripts do not list the degree title exactly as in the minimum qualifications, you may complete and submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency with your application for review by the Equivalency Committee. The equivalency review is independent and may be district-wide. The hiring committee may proceed with recruitment while equivalency decisions are pending due to time constraints.

SELECTION PROCESS

Pay Philosophy Starting salaries for PT Faculty are based on educational achievement and relevant experience; initial placement is at the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and educational growth.

Starting Salary Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semester for a 10% load. Salaries are governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
