Position Summary Staff Nurse I is accountable for the delivery of patient care using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. Provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence-based practice, and standards of nursing excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities

Complete required orientation program and clinic/unit-specific competencies.

Develop, implement and update patients’ plans of care based on ongoing assessment.

Collaborate with health care team to promote effective patient care.

Verify and implement orders from providers, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting in EHR.

Engage patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.

Recognize symptoms, establish priorities and respond to patient’s changing needs.

Delegate tasks to support personnel per Illinois State Nurse Practice Act.

Demonstrate commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication.

Other duties as assigned.

Professional/Leadership Responsibilities

Advocate for patients, families and community.

Integrate evidence-based research to provide quality patient care.

Utilize hospital-accredited acuity and scheduling tools for staffing.

Support shared leadership governance.

Participate in organizational and shared leadership activities.

Maintain RN licensure, BLS and other required certifications.

Attend staff meetings, nursing councils and other meetings.

Assume Charge Nurse role when assigned.

Provide performance feedback within team.

Organizational Responsibilities

Adhere to UI Health Code of Conduct.

Show respect and dignity to patients, staff and visitors.

Follow nursing time, overtime and attendance policies.

Complete electronic learning modules by established dates.

Comply with TB, flu, and fit-testing requirements.

Escalate patient care problems through proper channels.

Identify recurring practice issues and participate in resolution.

Education/Research Responsibilities

Collaborate with nurses to promote learning.

Serve as preceptor and resource to staff and students.

Use UI Health intranet/Outlook for updates.

Support nursing and multidisciplinary research.

Pursue continued professional growth.

Reporting Structure

Work independently within nursing scope; directed by Clinic Director and Administrative Nurse III.

Performance evaluated annually.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as Registered Professional Nurse (Illinois).

Current AHA BLS/CPR and unit-specific certifications.

Effective oral and written communication.

Intermediate computer skills with EHR proficiency.

Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 1-2 years ambulatory nursing experience.
