AECOM is seeking a

Senior Freight Rail Project Manager – Civil/Track Design

to join our growing regional rail design presence in the U.S. West Region Rail Group. The selected candidate will drive design excellence for an exciting array of freight rail projects and support Class I, short‑line, and industrial rail clients.

Job Responsibilities

Serve as a senior project manager on rail projects, overseeing planning, preliminary engineering, and final design.

Develop project scope, budget, and schedule, and lead client contract negotiations.

Act as a client account manager for all AECOM interactions with regional rail clients.

Coordinate and manage project deliveries with team members and support business development.

Provide leadership and mentorship to subordinate managers and technical engineering staff.

Perform at a level requiring professional experience and demonstrated ability to manage complex rail design tasks.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 10 years of related rail experience or demonstration of equivalent rail experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

Professional Engineering license in Illinois (or ability to obtain one).

8 years of relevant experience in rail design, or equivalent experience and education.

Proficiency with OpenRoads/OpenRail or other BIM software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoPak).

Ability to collaborate and coordinate with design teams of multi‑discipline engineers and technicians.

Detail‑oriented and excellent communication and writing skills.

Additional Information

Travel may be required.

Due to the nature of the projects, U.S. work‑sponsorship is not available.

Compensation The offered rate (Chicago, IL) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $180,000.00 – $260,000.00 per year.
