Overview: WBBM Newsradio, Chicago’s number one news station, is looking for a talented full-time Anchor/Reporter hybrid with an enterprising attitude and impressive work ethic to join our team of award-winning journalists. Shifts will primarily consist of evenings, but may also include early mornings, holidays and/or weekends. You will be expected to operate under tight deadlines, work collaboratively, and pitch story ideas. You will also be expected to be active on various social media channels and contribute content to the station website.

What You’ll Do:

Anchor over the course of multiple hours on WBBM Newsradio- including running an audio board for news broadcasting and reporting on various news stories as assigned.

Operate the audio board of the radio station and maintain the audio content with consistency and reliability and to FCC standards.

Deliver the news in a conversational and authoritative way while communicating with editors and other newsroom employees.

Conceptualize, write, produce and record reported news segments for on air and multi-platform publication.

Gather audio in the community, conduct interviews on-scene, provide live coverage during breaking news

Use social media before, during and after the course of your shift to connect with listeners, promote upcoming stories and interviews, and to highlight station content

Contribute content – including but not limited to audio, video and written format – toWBBMNewsradio.com or other Audacy websites as needed.

Required & Preferred:

Minimum 3-years of large to major market on-air news anchoring experience. Experience in the news radio format is preferred.

Must have solid skills in audio production and have a strong working knowledge of using production and on-air studio equipment and software applications like Adobe Audition, Wide Orbit, VoxPro

Knowledgeable and up to date with local, regional, and national trends

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Proficient in media production (primarily audio) and broadcast systems

Respect for others and a strong belief that others should do this in return

Ability to work within prescribed guidelines without needing close supervision

Problem solving skills within established procedures

Understanding of when to seek guidance for unforeseen problems

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to act in a professional manner and collaborate with colleagues of different levels

Adhere to all company policies and guidelines of station, management, and FCC.

You must be dependable, self-motivated and agreeable to a work schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings, overnights and/or weekends.

Strong time management skills; adept at setting priorities and managing deadlines

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as a strong understanding of journalistic ethics

You must have significant experience anchoring and writing news at a professionally operated TV or radio station in large or major markets.

Familiarity with the Chicago news and the overall market is preferred

Required to join the SAG-AFTRA union

A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and, if the position requires use of the applicant’s own vehicle, proof of insurance, is required.
