Salary Range Up to $71,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary The Learning Experience Designer partners closely with faculty and works as a critical team member, aligning to a cohesive vision for flexible, creative, and high‑quality learning experiences. The LXD combines instructional design skills with course development and user interface expertise to create student‑centric, contemporary, and engaging learning environments. The role promotes a student‑centric, holistic approach to learning design informed by evidence‑based best practices.

Core Responsibilities

Employ a student‑centric, holistic approach to improving the digital learning experience and promoting effective, authentic learning.

Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to design and develop engaging digital learning activities and compelling learning experiences that enhance retention and knowledge transfer.

Identify target personas, develop learning experience wireframes, design storyboards, and prototype in alignment with pedagogical innovation and user experience best practices.

Design and develop interactive elements for prototyping, testing, and supporting new learning strategies and models.

Design and develop online courses using contemporary development tools, adhering to style guides and quality standards.

Ensure learning design and content development are completed on time and meet quality standards.

Analyze learning metrics to assess effectiveness of learning solutions and recommend improvements.

Maintain internal style and design documentation for new learning models.

Offer technical, creative, and logistical recommendations on the design and production of learning content.

Facilitate faculty professional development opportunities on design, building, and teaching online and hybrid courses.

Apply Universal Design for Learning principles and accessibility standards to learning experience design.

Provide guidance on developing and remediating course materials to meet institutional, state, and federal accessibility standards.

Oversee training and support for faculty and staff in online accessibility.

Conduct accessibility reviews of online and hybrid courses to ensure compliance and quality.

Support direct training and learning experiences related to the implementation of new LMS.

Participate in university‑wide task forces.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree plus two years’ instructional‑design experience in higher education.

One (1) year of experience working in education and applying UDL principles.

Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning principles.

Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for pedagogy.

Advanced knowledge of learning management and content management systems.

Passion for innovation in teaching and learning experiences.

Excellent communication skills.

Strong commitment to quality, organization, and attention to detail.

Willingness to learn new skills.

Flexibility and openness to change with ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects.

Ability to work independently and collaborate within an academic community, remotely and in person.

Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio’s infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an instructional designer in an online higher‑education environment.

Editorial experience, design, user experience, or related field in higher education.

Functional experience in building multimedia assets.

Expertise in instructional technology and multimedia authoring tools.

Positive work atmosphere through teamwork and collaboration.

Experience designing long‑term and short‑term content and learning experiences for online programs and non‑credit courses.

Experience with pedagogy and curriculum design for online adult education.

Data‑driven mindset for course design and improvement.

Accessibility certifications (e.g., CPACC, Trusted Tester).

Quality Matters APPQMR Certification.

Experience with ADA, W3C and 508 compliance.

Proficiency in assistive technologies and manual accessibility testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Use of standard office equipment, audio/visual equipment, and accessibility tools.

Utilize accessibility tools to test software and digital content.

Working Conditions

Remote and on campus.

Occasional evening and weekend work.

Occasional travel to state and national conventions and workshops.

May travel between campuses.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time.

May exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position is primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
