External Communications Manager, North America Position Summary The External Communications Manager, North America, is a critical role of the North America Brand & Communication team, reporting to the VP, North America Communications. This role supports the overall External Communication & Brand strategy in North America by building awareness and visibility while protecting the organization’s image through reputation management. It supports the development and implementation of the strategic external communication and thought leadership plan, including key influencer efforts, content marketing strategy, and media relations. The role works closely with Global & other Regional External Communications teams to ensure consistency and synergies in execution of plans and sharing of best practices, and collaborates with Regional senior leadership and cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent and effective messaging across North America.

Primary Duties Communication Planning

Provide North America with a sustainable external communication strategy linked to business objectives that will build corporate brand awareness and engage key influencers. Includes the development and execution of a comprehensive communication plan with tactics that enhance bioMérieux’s branding (thought leadership strategy, awareness campaigns, blog content, etc.).

Partner with NorAm Internal communications to ensure appropriate dissemination of relevant content to promote key messages internally to leaders and managers and to identify internal stories that can be shared externally.

Partner with Public & Government Affairs, Marketing and Medical Affairs to nurture internal & external key opinion leaders/subject matter experts (via editorial committee) that serve as spokespersons for key communications positions and media contacts on key issues in public health.

Manage third‑party communication agency to handle media inquiries and interview requests, leveraging existing media relationships and cultivating new contacts within business and industry media.

Content Creation

Develop, draft, and socialize position statements, training and onboarding materials for internal stakeholders; create media statements, talking points, and bylined articles.

Actively manage and support the creation of high quality, dynamic editorial content, shaping the editorial style of bioMerieux brand in the US.

Partner with Regional Brand & Digital Lead to best leverage content to build comprehensive campaigns, and develop and maintain leadership content on U.S. website and social media channels.

Ensure content is tailored to diverse audiences and effectively communicates the company’s key messages.

Ensure consistent messaging across all external channels.

Executive Level Engagement

Craft and refine key messages for North America Leadership Team, develop speeches and presentations for events, leveraging support from the Brand + Content COE when needed.

Manage the Regional GMs editorial and thought leadership efforts, partnering with Regional Internal Communications to align on any transversal regional level internal comms.

Support or provide media training to prepare executives for interviews and public engagements.

Crisis Communication

Support and/or lead external communication efforts during crises, ensuring timely and accurate information is disseminated to the public.

Align communication objectives with the organization’s goals.

Audience engagement.

Message resonance.

Total mentions in influencer coverage, including number of articles executive is quoted in.

Total number of published written content deliverables for thought leadership (blog posts, contributed articles).

Total views, impressions, and engagement resulting from published blog posts or videos.

Education And Experience Requirements

BS/B.A. in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Communications or related field.

10+ years of corporate communications and/or marketing, media, events or public relations experience.

Expertise in media relations, crisis communication, and brand positioning.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong ability in writing content such as press releases, news statements, talking points and other corporate communications.

Ability to drive 3rd‑party groups to deliver increased services of value to the organization.

Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
