About the Role & Team

We're looking for a Background Painter to join a Kids and Family series at Disney Television Animation! In this role you will be responsible for making thoughtful color choices regarding the lighting, environment, tone, and atmosphere of each assigned scene.

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with Art Director and/or Background Paint Lead to apply color, textures and details to approved background designs.
  • Reference color keys established by Color Stylist to adhere to show style and guidelines.
  • Further the storytelling process using color, design and sense of light.
  • Adhere to the production schedule provided by Line Producer to ensure cost effective, timely production.
  • Additional duties as necessary, or as defined by individual contracts.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • A robust Background Paint portfolio that includes a variety of internal and external locations under various lighting conditions.
  • Proven ability to align with the style and sensibility of various shows.
  • Expert knowledge of color and color theory.
  • Knowledge of software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Harmony.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to take creative feedback and address notes.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a television animation pipeline

The pay rate for this role in California is $56.88 to $60.33 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
