Audio and Video Technician

You will have the opportunity to be a part of all things happening in Austin. Be part of a team that has an opportunity to be on TV!

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Crestron video conference equipment
  • Make sure the microphones are working properly
  • Ensure TV monitors are connected properly
  • Prepare rooms for televised meetings

Some nights and weekends will be required.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with live sound reinforcement systems, including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, mixers, and digital audio consoles (Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Behringer X32, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of signal flow, gain structure, and audio routing.
  • Experience with audio recording, playback, and streaming systems.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital audio formats (XLR, TRS, AES/EBU, Dante, etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot feedback, hum, and interference issues quickly during live events.
  • Experience supporting teleconferencing systems (WebEx, Teams, Zoom, etc.).

Video Qualifications

  • Experience with professional video switchers, routers, and scalers (e.g., Blackmagic, Extron, Crestron, Roland, etc.).
  • Knowledge of camera operation and setup, including PTZ cameras, framing, focus, and exposure.
  • Understanding of video signal types and standards (HDMI, SDI, DisplayPort, NDI, etc.).
  • Experience with projection systems, LED walls, or multi‑display configurations.

Technical and General Skills

  • Strong IT and networking knowledge, especially regarding IP‑based AV systems, switches, and VLANs.
  • Experience with control systems (Q‑SYS, Crestron) and automation programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret AV system schematics and rack layouts.
  • Preventative maintenance and inventory management for AV gear.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for AV equipment on government networks.
  • Ability to manage multiple live events with competing priorities under time pressure.
  • PowerPoint operation for live presentations, including embedded video, audio, transitions, and animations.

Soft Skills

  • Professional demeanor and discretion, particularly when supporting high‑level meetings or classified discussions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with officials, agency staff, and other technical teams.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills for event logs, incident reports, and technical diagrams.
  • Ability to work under government protocols, including chain of command, scheduling, and data handling procedures.

Ideally we are looking for a candidate that is highly technical, can rock a sound board and be very reliable. This is a highly visible job, you must work well under pressure and be very thick‑skinned.
