Position Summary
The English and Writing Studies program at Salem College is seeking qualified candidates for an adjunct faculty position to teach an introductory‑level writing course for the Spring 2026 semester.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, engaging instruction to undergraduate students.
- Develop and update syllabi, assignments, and course materials.
- Assess student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Hold regular office hours to assist students.
- Adhere to department and college policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching first‑year writing or composition at the college level.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field.
- Experience with and commitment to teaching a diverse student population.
- Familiarity with online learning management systems, such as Canvas.
- Experience teaching writing across different modalities (e.g., in‑person, online, hybrid).
Physical Functions
While performing the responsibilities of the adjunct English instructor, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation; view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
