We’re looking for a creative + technical Industrial Designer to join our team in a freelancer capacity located in northern Illinois Chicagoland or Kenosha, Wisconsin area.
If you love freehand sketching, CAD modeling, and solving design challenges across materials and processes — from injection molding to textiles to die‑casting — this is the role for you.
About the Role We’re looking for a hands‑on, detail‑driven Industrial Designer who can take product concepts from sketch to production‑ready design. You’ll work on unique custom‑manufactured items (hard goods, soft goods, drinkware, novelty items, light electronics, etc.) for major brands. This role is equal parts creative and technical: you’ll be sketching, concepting, and bringing imaginative ideas to life while also ensuring manufacturability and cost‑effectiveness.
What You’ll Do
Generate freehand sketches and quick ideation drawings to communicate multiple design directions.
Translate concepts into 2D renderings and 3D CAD models.
Develop design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) solutions that balance cost, quality, and tooling limitations.
Prepare technical drawings, exploded views, and spec sheets for RFQs and supplier communications.
Collaborate with project managers and suppliers to refine designs based on material capabilities, compliance, and production methods.
Provide input on materials, finishes, and production processes (injection molding, die casting, laser engraving, hydro‑dip, textiles, etc.).
Iterate designs based on sampling, prototyping, and feedback.
Maintain brand consistency while exploring innovative, market‑relevant approaches.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years experience in product/industrial design (consumer goods, promotional items, or similar).
Strong freehand sketching and visualization skills to communicate ideas quickly.
Proficiency in CAD and rendering tools (SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360, Rhino, Blender, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop).
Strong knowledge of DFM, materials, and manufacturing processes across multiple product categories.
Experience prepping design packages for overseas and domestic manufacturing.
Ability to juggle multiple projects with short timelines while keeping details locked in.
Creative problem‑solver with a portfolio that shows both imaginative design and manufacturable outcomes.
Excellent communicator who can present design intent through sketches, rendering, and presentations to clearly align with the creative and brand functions.
Ability to clearly translate those same ideas into technical drawings, specs, and details that manufacturers can use to accurately produce the product.
Bonus Skills
Experience working directly with overseas factories and RFQ processes.
Familiarity with promotional products or branded consumer goods.
Knowledge of packaging design and compliance requirements.
Why Join Us As previously mentioned in the description, this role is a freelancer role as a contractor to GO2 Partners, in the hopes of turning into a full‑time employee. Each project will be presented from the GO2 team with an estimate on how much time the project would take, and GO2 will provide payment once the project is completed to the standards and requirements.
