They come to us from the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Starbucks and the sports world, bringing energy, bold ideas and a willingness to dive into the unfamiliar. It's our people that make BDA the top global Merchandise Agency to work for.
Location:
This role follows a flexible onsite schedule (four days onsite and one day remote each week) at one of our BDA office locations: If you’re within commuting distance of one of these offices, we’d love to have you join us in the collaboration, creativity, and energy that happen in person.
Role Overview At BDA, our New Business Development (NBD) team is the driving force behind our company’s growth. We specialize in developing persuasive, strategic proposals and presentations that demonstrate our organization’s expertise, attract new business, and build lasting relationships with all our clients. If you have a talent for crafting compelling, customer‑centered narratives that seamlessly bridge our capabilities with client needs and have a track record for securing multi‑million‑dollar clients/funders through proposal/grant writing, we’d love for you to experience the success of what we’ve been doing for 40 years.
Duties & Responsibilities
Craft Winning Proposals:
Develop persuasive proposals that are clear, engaging, and tailored to both BDA’s voice and the unique needs of each client. Your goal is to secure long‑term partnerships and enable our value proposition to create sense for ‘why BDA’.
Develop Long‑Form Proposals:
Write detailed, clear, and compelling proposals (often 40+ pages) that effectively communicate our services and business solutions to potential clients.
Collaborate with Stakeholders:
Partner with cross‑functional teams to gather insights and contributions from subject matter experts (SMEs), ensuring proposals are informed, strategic, and accurate.
Client‑Centric Storytelling:
Write proposals that reflect a deep understanding of client needs and use persuasive, clear language to demonstrate how BDA’s solutions will meet and exceed their expectations.
Analyze and Strategize:
Research potential clients, competitive landscapes, and market trends to craft proposals that set us apart in high‑stakes, competitive environments.
Develop Impactful Visuals and Presentations:
Collaborate with design teams to create visually compelling presentations and web comps that enhance storytelling and effectively communicate our offerings.
Manage Multiple Projects:
Navigate multiple priorities and timelines, staying organized and focused to meet deadlines while maintaining quality and impact.
Flexibility for Business Development Deadlines:
To meet key deadlines, this role occasionally requires working outside of typical hours. We share this for transparency, so it’s not a surprise if hired; during slower periods, we’re flexible with time off to help balance high‑demand times.
Qualifications
Proven Success in Persuasive Business Writing:
Minimum two years’ experience in developing proposals, grants, or RFPs with a demonstrated ability to influence decision‑makers, ideally with experience in securing high‑value contracts ($1M+).
Passion for Long‑Form Business Proposals:
A love for crafting detailed, engaging proposals that capture attention from the first page to the last—ideally up to 40+ pages, with a focus on keeping readers fully engaged throughout.
Client‑First Perspective:
Able to interpret client needs and translate them into compelling business cases, balancing BDA’s strategic priorities with a deep understanding of what resonates with clients.
Proposal Ownership and Organizational Skills:
Experience managing all stages of the proposal process, from initial intake to final delivery. Ability to manage multiple deliverables across concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
Collaborative and Adaptable:
Skilled in gathering input across teams—including executives, sales leaders, and technical experts—to inform proposals, with the flexibility to pivot as needed.
Outstanding Written and Verbal Communication:
Exceptional skill in tailoring language to various audiences, using the client’s voice and addressing their priorities, with a flair for storytelling that resonates.
Attention to Detail and Organization:
Highly organized with an eye for detail, ensuring compliance with RFP requirements and that every delivery aligns with client and company standards.
Strategic Insight and Critical Thinking:
Ability to analyze market and competitive data to enhance proposal relevance, coupled with sound judgment for crafting narratives that win.
Required Writing Samples:
Must provide samples of previous writings at a certain stage of the interview process.
