Senior Drainage Design Manager
Join HNTB's growing Design?Build (DB) Organization! HNTB is seeking a Senior Drainage Design Manager who can lead teams on fast?paced transportation projects and bring subject?matter expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management. This role will deliver high?quality drainage deliverables, manage budgets and schedules, and support HNTBs 4?for?4 performance goals of quality work on time, on budget, and to client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop project scope and fee quotation; assist in technical proposals and contracts per HNTBs Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Act as the primary client liaison and lead project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budget on completion, managing client contract scoping and negotiations.
- Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
- Implement HNTBs Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA), lead development and execution of the project management plan, supervise and mentor team to achieve overall objectives.
- Oversee project staffing, recruitment, development, retention, succession planning, performance and compensation reviews.
- Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions for business development, client relationship building, and pursuit efforts on mega and super?mega projects following HNTBs Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Prepare proposal and presentation materials; lead proposal development and interview presentations.
- May be responsible for recruiting, hiring, development and retention of staff, including succession planning and performance reviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
- 4 years of successful management of engineering projects.
Desired Skills
- Leading a drainage team for design of complex transportation infrastructure projects.
- Leads project teams in development of design modeling, calculations, plans, specs, and quality control.
- Works with other disciplines to assure fully integrated design.
- Works with project management and contracting partners for efficient, constructable design.
- Provides engineering support for cost estimates and risk identification for job pursuits.
- Develops scopes, fees and work plans to execute projects on aggressive schedules.
- Assigns tasks and directs design to provide quality deliverables and meet project schedules.
- Acts as subject?matter expert, senior review of designs, proposals, fee estimates, and scopes of work nationwide.
- Designs hydrology and hydraulics for surface water runoff collection, conveyance systems, stormwater management, open channel modeling, scour analysis, and mitigation measures.
- Proficient with industry software: Microstation, InRoads Drainage, GEOPAK Drainage, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Storm CAD, HEC?RAS 1D & 2D, SWMM, PondPack, Culvert Master, Flow Master, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience designing hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management on fast?paced transportation infrastructure projects, including progression to task and project management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification; ability to obtain PE in multiple states.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with construction methods for optimal design.
- Familiarity with permitting at federal, state, and local levels.
- CA PE preferred.

Compensation
Approximate pay ranges:
- New Jersey: $193,811.25 - $337,739.58.
- Los Angeles Metro Area and Orange County, CA: $202,620.86 - $323,667.10.
- San Diego, Sacramento, and Inland Empire, CA: $193,811.25 - $309,594.62.
- Colorado: $193,811.25 - $309,594.62.
Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, skills, and location.
