Position title: Director of Content. Reports to: Greg Mescall, Chief Content & Growth Officer. Location: Hybrid SoCal; must be based in Southern California; must be authorized to work in the U.S.; relocation assistance is not provided. Compensation: $71,000 - $74,000 annual salary (exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience).

The Director of Content for USA Water Polo is a multi-faceted role that creates, scripts, shoots, edits and produces a variety of video and photo projects. The position collaborates in the management of social media accounts and serves both the National Teams and the National Office of USA Water Polo. Content creation and social media are evolving and central to USA Water Polo’s communications efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Video Production & Editing: Serve as videographer at events (National Championships, National Team competitions, practices, development/fundraising events, media events, etc.).
  • Produce features, profiles, instructional videos, webcasts, and related content.
  • Act as producer/editor from concept through completion, covering highlights and other projects (sponsorship projects, contest submissions, staff presentations, annual highlights, athlete and Hall of Fame profiles, event promotional videos, television features, etc.).
  • Develop production schedules/outlines and story concepts for projects.
  • Manage organization and archiving of video footage and maintain a filing system.
  • Maintain a calendar of video projects and projected completion dates.
  • Co-produce various projects, including weekly news programs.
  • Coordinate shoot locations, interviews, and story research; take initiative as a producer.
  • Distribute completed videos as requested to social media, media partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing USAWP social media accounts with the content and communications staff.
  • General: Ensure projects are completed according to plan, schedule and budget; communicate status to key stakeholders and coordinate with the Chief Content & Growth Officer and supporting teams.
  • Assist in communications efforts (website, social media, etc.).
  • Incorporate character, values, and teamwork into video production approaches.
  • Apply creative problem-solving and innovative approaches when opportunities arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Complete video production and content creation efforts in collaboration with the Chief Content & Growth Officer or assigned teammates.

  • Editorial work is accurate and well-executed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in content creation, video production, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of video production and content creation experience (preferred).
  • Proficiency with professional video cameras (Canon, Sony, etc.).
  • Proficiency with MacIntosh computers and Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express/After Effects; strong graphics, effects, and editing skills.
  • Experience posting on social media to large followings (Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook, etc.).
  • Sound journalistic decision making regarding what to include in content for social media.
  • News and feature script-writing skills preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs (Word, Excel); strong internet research.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings/weekends; some travel.
  • Knowledge or passion for sports (water polo preferred but not required).
  • Must provide a sample video portfolio or web link to an online portfolio.
