UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE Fulton County Library System. VACANCY IS LOCATED AT THE Cascade Library.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science; supplemented by 3 years of professional Librarian experience, including 1 year of lead or supervisory experience. Certification as a Professional Librarian issued by the State of Georgia within six (6) months of employment. May be required to possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license as required by area assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Provides customer service to Library patrons and the public, including assistance and information related to library programs, services, materials, facilities, equipment, fees, and procedures; respond to questions and complaints; assist patrons with requesting, selecting, and locating library materials; and voter registration where applicable.
  • Designs and delivers programming; serves on committees and task forces; assists in drafting policies and procedures; maintains program participation records; assists in developing goals/objectives; and assists in short- and long-range planning for an assigned library section or collection.
  • Manages the selection, retention, and development of assigned library collections; evaluates publications for inclusion; prepares purchase orders; weeds outdated materials; catalogs materials; and supports authority control as required.
  • Leads, coordinates, and/or provides daily work assistance to employees, volunteers, or community service workers; coordinates library programs and activities; consults with staff to handle complex situations and provide technical guidance.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring the assigned library program budget as required.
  • Provides specialized reference services and bibliographic instruction to patrons as needed.
  • Develops and implements training programs to support the department’s mission and goals; conducts training assessments and trainings; maintains training records and reports (e.g., ROI, plans); training topics may include cataloging, department practices, and procedures.
  • Monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; recommends purchases of equipment related to services in the assigned area.
  • Participates in inventorying archives as required; assists with archival procedures and the evaluation/classification of manuscripts and research materials.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with community agencies and institutions; develops partnerships to promote services; conducts outreach and library card drives; serves as a community liaison for collection development.
  • Instructs patrons in the use of library systems/resources (OPAC, Internet, Dewey Decimal, databases, library computers, software, and equipment) and conducts formal classes as assigned.
  • Performs cataloging and classification (original cataloging) in accordance with current standards and local practices; creates MARC records and updates the library catalog; conducts authority control as required.
  • Processes inter-library loan requests from patrons and from other libraries, including verification, processing, and notifications.
  • Performs duties of subordinate library personnel as needed, including circulation services, materials processing, shelving, and general operations.
  • Prepares various forms, reports, and correspondence related to library operations (e.g., inter-library loan requests, schedules, calendars, statistical reports, and inventory documents).
  • Operates equipment used in library operations and maintains a ready supply of paper and materials; uses computer systems to enter, retrieve, or modify data; communicates with stakeholders to coordinate work flow.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Examination

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Official transcripts are required at time of employment for degrees/work used to qualify.
