Youth Services Librarian

Overview

Youth Services Librarian — this role coordinates Youth Services programs/projects for youth ages 0-18 and their families, teaches and coaches staff, volunteers, and citizens, provides customer service, and coordinates collections. While the primary focus is leadership in Youth Services, the librarian will also work with youth and adults in intergenerational programming. The position participates in setting unit, library, and system goals and contributes to decision-making and evaluation of progress. The starting pay is $53,456.00 and benefits begin within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Present individual and group training programs for the public and staff in the use of the library, its technology/equipment, and resources.
  • Serve as a general reference, assisting customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to outside agencies.
  • Assist, lead, develop, implement, and/or evaluate special projects, services, and library programs.
  • Maintain awareness of literature related to current best practices and future trends.
  • Participate in presentations and the development of technology training and information literacy programs for staff and patrons.
  • Plan and direct library programming for adults, young adults, and children, in coordination with other library professionals at the library and throughout the library system.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of library makerspace technology; assist in the creation, organization, and maintenance of the library’s makerspace; and provide makerspace programming and instruction.
  • Collaborate with internal core services to manage operational issues, support community goals and form strategic partnerships.
  • Participate in business planning, staff planning, and budget development.
  • Assist and participate in the selection, supervision, and training of library staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Encourage staff and volunteers to use their individual talents creatively to address tasks.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP) or – OR – Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve months of hire
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in a library environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience working with youth (0-18 years of age), as well as their families

Requirements

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Fingerprint Screening: This position is subject to a mandatory fingerprint-based background check per applicable federal, state, and/or local laws. The screening will be used to verify criminal history and other relevant information as permitted by law. An applicant who fails to pass a required screening may be disqualified from employment.
