Librarian (Adjunct/Part-time) – Rocklin, CA. This is a part-time faculty teaching position with salary rates listed below. Sierra College accepts applications year-round to create a pool of qualified applicants. The number of open positions varies by semester. Salary: $58.08 – $74.24 hourly. Location: Rocklin, CA. Division: Instruction Office.

Responsibilities

  • Reference/Information Referral
    • Perform daily operations of the Reference Department, including desk coverage, statistical tracking, in-person and online reference services; and user studies.
    • Provide consultation to users regarding the availability of intra- and interlibrary loan services.
    • Share evening/weekend reference desk duty, as necessary.
    • Assume leadership role in LRC; liaison with instructional faculty; assist in the design and development of services.
    • Assist library users in the use of library technologies, including Microsoft Office, LibCal, printing services, and wireless network.
  • Collection Development/Maintenance
    • Coordinate the selection and organization of materials to support a diverse reference and general collection in assigned areas.
    • Oversee organization, maintenance, and appropriateness of holdings to support varying instruction and curricular trends.
    • Manage subscriptions (approval plans, standing orders, vendor contracts, acquisition processes).
    • Assist with collection goals, policies, programs, and tracking systems. Collaborate with District librarians and instructional faculty.
    • Participate in investigation and costing of LRC equipment needs and selection of print and non-print materials.
  • Instruction
    • Coordinate development and delivery of general and specialized library instruction sessions.
    • Prepare course-related modules, online guides, tutorials, and other research aids.
    • Maintain awareness of new sources and integrate them into research processes; design assessments and instructional activities.
    • Orient users to library facilities, resources, and research methodology; deliver presentations on electronic technologies and search strategies.
  • User Services/Liaison
    • Provide system and service support in general circulation activities, including interlibrary loans and reserves.
    • Develop and coordinate support for the LRC service mission; assess public service functions and staff training.
    • Provide staff training and guidance; assist at the circulation desk as needed; monitor user needs and issues.
  • Professional Development
    • Monitor current literature and attend meetings and workshops related to library developments and trends.
    • Develop and maintain collegial contacts inside and outside the campus.
  • Training/Program Development
    • Develop individualized training for staff to meet diverse learning styles and skill levels.
    • Design and present staff workshops; develop materials and pursue funding opportunities.
    • Research and prepare reports related to library goals and needs assessments.
  • Shared Governance Activities
    • Attend and participate in library/LRC meetings and campus committees; respond to information requests as needed.
    • Represent LRC on campus-wide committees; participate in employment processes and governance activities.
  • Ancillary Student Services
    • Provide a positive role model; participate in ceremonies; provide letters of recommendation as requested; advise students in library science.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in library science or library and information science or the equivalent. Part-time/Adjunct salary details are provided in the Sierra College Part-Time/Adjunct Salary Schedule. Qualifications may include degree and years of acceptable teaching experience to determine step placement.
