Librarian, Head of Home Borrower Services

As a Librarian, Head of Home Borrower Services, you’ll lead and support home borrower services as part of the Library Programming and Community Outreach team, located at the Fort Myers Regional Library campus. The position will encompass the following duties:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Outreach and Advisory Center for the National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Print Disabled.
  • Supervise the Homebound Coordinator and system-wide materials-by-mail service.
  • Coordinate and conduct outreach for Home Borrower Services and promote library resources to community organizations.
  • Deliver high-quality service to Talking Books patrons and provide prompt, courteous assistance to patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Provide expert readers’ advisory and reference assistance, helping patrons access materials, technology, and electronic resources.
  • Maintain and promote the materials-by-mail collection through regular evaluation, weeding, and display creation.
  • Plan, initiate, and conduct programs and outreach activities to encourage use of Home Borrower Services and other library resources.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and organizations serving homebound and visually impaired individuals.
  • Provide technology training and support for staff and patrons on Talking Books Library resources and related technology.
  • Actively participate in professional development, staying current with trends and innovations in library services and assistive technologies.
  • Serve on system-wide committees, contribute to library initiatives, and assist with special events as assigned.
  • Explain and administer library policies and procedures with professionalism and consistency.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments and locations.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community. You should be comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English. Initiative, creativity, and flexibility are key—along with a willingness to grow and learn.

Spanish language skills are a plus.

Required:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited library school

OR

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in an accredited library science program and graduation within 6 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, preferably in a library or related setting.
  • Ability to engage community partners in promoting library programs and services
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Ability to engage community partners in the promotion of library programs is required.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited program
  • One or more years of library or related public service experience
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience
  • Three or more years of customer service experience
  • Experience developing and implementing outreach programs
  • Familiarity with current trends in library technology, accessibility tools, and community outreach

Work Schedule

  • Full-time, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Schedule includes variable hours with evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays
  • Employees may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another library location based on system needs
