Technical Director, Environmental Engineer – PFAS Remediation SME
Join ERM as a Technical Director to lead PFAS site investigation and remediation. You will provide technical strategy and project assistance on Per‑and polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) site investigations and remediation for clients locally, nationally, and internationally. This role may be based in multiple U.S. and Canadian locations.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject‑matter expert on PFAS across site investigation and remediation projects, product stewardship, and compliance.
- Collaborate with North American leadership to develop a global go‑to‑market strategy for PFAS.
- Oversee, manage, and provide technical expertise on complex PFAS remediation projects across industries such as chemical, manufacturing, oil and gas, and other sectors.
- Design and install remedial solutions for contaminated soil, groundwater, vapor, and sediment using innovative and emergent technologies.
- Assist clients in developing and implementing contaminated site management strategies.
- Evaluate remedial technologies for site applicability (feasibility screening).
- Perform remediation design tasks, including data evaluation, calculations, quantitation, cost estimation, and report preparation.
- Delegate project assignments and mentor junior staff.
- Prepare technical proposals and support business development with existing clients and new leads.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with ERM employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or geology/hydrogeology.
- At least 8 years of consulting experience, 15 years preferred, with significant industrial clients on complex site investigation, remediation, and construction projects.
- Expertise in PFAS topics with peer‑reviewed publications or conference presentations.
- Proven experience leading a remediation design team from start to finish.
- Experience preparing detailed technical and environmental reports.
- Experience interacting with regulators and clients to facilitate project progress.
- Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Current Health and Safety training (HAZWOPER 40‑hour and OSHA 30‑hour).
Compensation
Annual base pay ranges from $147,670 to $198,032 USD, depending on qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
