Head of Buying and Visual Merchandising The WHEAT Company

Role Brief: The East Coast Visual Merchandiser (ECVM) is responsible for upholding and elevating The WHEAT Company’s luxury visual standards across all East Coast retail locations. This individual will oversee the implementation of brand visual merchandising guidelines, ensuring consistency in presentation, storytelling, and customer experience.

The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and deeply attuned to both brand identity and regional clientele, balancing creativity with commercial awareness. This role requires frequent travel across East Coast stores and a hands‑on approach to leadership, training, and execution.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Visual Execution & Store Presentation

  • Execute and maintain WHEAT visual merchandising standards across all East Coast locations, ensuring displays are brand‑aligned, commercially effective, and visually captivating.
  • Design and install window displays, interior product presentations, and seasonal floor sets in alignment with corporate directives.
  • Implement visual updates tied to product launches, promotions, holidays, and seasonal themes.
  • Ensure all stores present a cohesive brand story while tailoring displays to local clientele and store performance insights.

Strategic Planning & Reporting

  • Partner with the buying team to plan seasonal product flows, identify key item placements, and align visual strategies with business priorities.
  • Provide feedback and photo documentation after each store visit, summarizing visual standards, opportunities, and next steps.
  • Analyze sales performance and guest engagement to continually refine visual strategies that drive conversion.
  • Maintain a VM calendar to track rotations, store visits, and upcoming initiatives.

Training & Team Development

  • Conduct regular VM trainings with store teams to elevate in‑store presentation, mannequin styling, and product storytelling.
  • Create and distribute visual guidelines, and best practice toolkits to ensure consistency across stores.
  • Coach store leaders on brand presentation standards, visual maintenance, and product adjacencies.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with internal teams—including Marketing, Events, Store Planning, and Facilities—to support activations, trunk shows, and special projects.
  • Collaborate with the Visual Merchandising Manager and HQ team on national directives, seasonal concepts, and visual rollouts.
  • Communicate regularly with store managers to ensure feedback loops and alignment on brand presentation goals.

Operational & Travel Requirements

  • Centrally based on the East Coast, with the ability to travel 3–4 days per week to Dover (NH), York (ME), Chestnut Hill (MA), Martha’s Vineyard (MA), and Nantucket (MA).
  • Ensure all stores have the appropriate visual materials, fixtures, and supplies for execution.
  • Support store openings, relocations, or refreshes as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of proven experience in visual merchandising, with a demonstrated portfolio of previous work.
  • Demonstrate visual design skills with a strong retail merchandising portfolio.
  • Experience in visual merchandising, including window displays, signs, interior displays, and space utilization.
  • Knowledge of current visual merchandising trends and best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Skilled in analyzing sales data to guide product transfers, optimize inventory flow, and identify guest demographics.
  • Proven ability to work effectively amongst a team and learn all aspects of their roles for continued success.

  • Ten (10) days of paid vacation, resetting on your work anniversary each year.
  • Five (5) days of sick time, resetting at the beginning of each calendar year.

Salary Range: $55,000-$68,000 depending on experience.
