Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Technician delivers patient care utilizing the Relationship?Based Care model as a framework. The Nursing Technician supports Shared Leadership, Evidence?Based Practice, and standards of nursing excellence, functioning as an interdisciplinary team member who provides patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient admission, transfer or discharge as assigned; supports patient by performing activities of daily living, safely operating patient care equipment, and promoting skin integrity and safety measures.
  • Documents patient information in EHR (vital signs, nursing care provided, intake and output).
  • Acts as a patient/family advocate by providing comfort, assistance, and information, and provides feedback to RN or LPN as directed.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; supports department and unit goals in daily behavior.
  • Identifies recurring clinical practice or unit problems and participates in problem solving and resolution.
  • Collaborates with other staff to identify, promote, and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
  • Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet those needs.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Possession of a CNA license from an accredited institution/school/program.
  3. Registered and active in the Illinois Department of Public Health Health Care Work Registry.
  4. Current BLS/CPR and other required unit?specific certifications.
  5. Effective communication skills (oral and written) facilitating therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
  6. Intermediate computer skills with ability to become proficient in EHR with on?the?job training.
  7. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
