English Writing Center Manager (Academic Resource Center Manager) LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City, Queens, New York. Posted 3 days ago. Be among the first 25 applicants. POSITION DETAILS Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree‑seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first‑generation college students. Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty‑six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four‑year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. LaGuardia ranked fifth among U.S. community colleges in economic mobility in studies by Stanford University (2017) and the Brookings Institution (2020). Responsibilities Manages the day‑to‑day operations of the Writing Center; prepares, maintains, allocates, implements, negotiates budget. Develops Writing Center tutoring and CUNY test prep programs; develops tutorial and lab materials and tutor training materials. Manages recruitment, supervision and evaluations of all Writing Center staff including College Assistants/Tutors. Manages, develops and modifies Writing Center intake systems, including front‑desk intake processes and appointment and walk‑in systems. Administers Writing Center semesterly student and periodic faculty evaluations; prepares statistical evaluations semesterly and yearly; submits assessment and utilization reports. Develops and conducts Writing Center training workshops as well as in‑person and online orientations. Informs the college community regarding Writing Center programs, operation and developments, including opening and end‑of‑term memos. Participates in English Department assessment projects and Benchmark assessments. Participates in design of Writing Center layout and collaborates with college in decision process for Writing Center relocation. Participates in Composition Committee work. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience required. CUNY Title Overview Implements and monitors a comprehensive student support program based on targeted academic resources such as tutoring, remedial and/or other related support services. Prepares outcomes assessment to further develop center offerings; sets goals and objectives; supports strategic plan. Creates, implements and delivers seminars, workshops and other programs to meet the needs of students and faculty. Collaborates with academic departments and other units to design, execute and improve center offerings. Oversees promotional material development and center communications utilizing various media formats. Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management. Manages professional, instructional and/or clerical staff; may administer department budget. May seek additional funding by identifying new revenue sources and grants. Performs related duties as assigned. Compensation And Benefits Salary: $77,173 - $94,909 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
