TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month
SUMMARY: The job of Library MediaSpecialist is done for the purpose of maintaining library collection at school site; implementing age-appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction and educating students on the proper use of the library resources.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Social Security Card
- Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
- Valid picture ID
- Targeted job-related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Job-related experience is desired

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists teachers, students and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments
- Assists with and supports the administration of District benchmark assessments
- Coordinates media requests of individual sites for the purpose of ensuring availability of audio visual equipment for instructional use
- Maintain and troubleshoot technology problems for the purpose of maintaining maximum function of all technology equipment
- Plan and coordinate book fairs
- Schedules and coordinates computer and mobile lab usage
- Monitor morning announcements (conducted by students)
- Directs student workers, volunteers, etc., for the purpose of ensuring that assignments are completed appropriately
- Instructs students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library/media resources
- Inventories equipment and materials in library collection for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials
- Prepares reports for the purpose of conveying information to appropriate parties
- Selects and makes recommendations for the ordering of books, periodicals, films, supplies and technology equipment, etc., for the purpose of maintaining library collection controls
- Repairs books and makes minor equipment repairs for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books and audio/visual equipment
- Conducts classes in a variety of formats (storytelling, puppet plays, Success Makers, etc.) for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature
- Maintains library and computer lab in a neat and orderly fashion for the purpose of ensuring an environment conducive to learning
- Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc., for the purpose of motivating students to use library resources
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: cataloging books/media; utilizing pertinent software applications, and utilizing equipment used in profession.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and understand complex multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws.
Ability is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing using a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; communicating with diverse groups, implementing curriculum; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is sometimes required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 33% sitting, 34% walking and 34% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
