Amentum is seeking a Junior UI/UX Designer to join our team of passionate individuals in Washington, DC . In this role you will support challenging, mission‑critical projects that make a direct impact on the Nation’s security and intelligence mission.
As a Top Secret UI/UX Designer for this program, you will work in an organization whose mission is to develop and operate the best possible software for critical national security enterprise applications. This organization leverages SCRUM and SAFe Agile software development methodology and strong DevOps practices.
You will be responsible for developing mock‑ups of intuitive interfaces, reviewing user experience feedback, receiving stakeholder and development team feedback, and adjusting accordingly. You will create and update style guides, work with the development teams to ensure 508‑compliant designs and responsive designs based on current best practices, and guide, mentor, and coach team members while leading projects to successful completion. You will research user needs as well as potential system enhancements and may also code, test, debug, and implement web applications using a variety of platforms.
Responsibilities
Build mock‑ups of intuitive interfaces with the development team.
Provide a consistent look and feel across case‑management development teams.
Review user experience feedback and adjust designs accordingly.
Work with users to understand use cases.
Update and maintain style guides.
Ensure 508‑compliant and responsive designs based on current best practices.
Oversee all visual design efforts, guiding, mentoring, and coaching team members.
Develop and maintain relationships with key peers in Marketing, Branding, UX leaders, IT leaders, and others to identify and plan creative solutions.
Manage external service resources and budgets for visual design, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget, and quality completion.
Ensure compliance with project‑management methodologies and the Project Management Office processes and standards.
Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance of application release management, outage management, and change control processes and standards.
Define, create, communicate, and manage resource plans and other required project documentation such as style guides.
Develop proof‑of‑concepts and prototypes of easy‑to‑navigate user interfaces consisting of web pages with graphics, icons, and color schemes that are visually appealing.
Plan, recruit, and facilitate the usability testing of a system, analyzing and synthesizing the results to provide recommendations for change.
A typical day in the life on this program involves:
Conduct user research to gather insights into needs, behaviors and pain points.
Create wireframes, prototypes and interactive designs.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure design solutions align with technical constraints and business goals.
Requirements
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
Minimum of 1 year of experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related field (degree can be substituted with additional years of experience).
Creating visual concepts using computer software to communicate ideas that inspire, inform and captivate.
Developing the overall layout and production design for the target audience.
Keeping up‑to‑date with design trends, techniques, and technologies.
Prioritizing tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of high‑quality designs.
Analyzing large‑scale enterprise systems for usability.
Experience with responsive design.
Experience writing production‑quality HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Designing the visual aesthetics of digital products, including layout, typography, color schemes, and graphic elements (i.e. wireframes).
Ensuring visual consistency and coherence across different screens and components of the user interface.
Ensuring that designs are accessible to users with disabilities by following accessibility guidelines and best practices.
Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other designers, to align design decisions with business goals and technical feasibility.
Embracing an iterative design process by continuously refining and improving designs based on feedback, research findings, and usability testing results.
Preferred
Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL.
GitLab, JFROG Artifactory and Xray, Splunk, Hashicorp Vault, Boundary, Consul, Terraform, Nexus, JIRA, Crucible, Jenkins, Ansible and Ansible Tower.
AWS Associate Level or above certification(s).

The base salary range for this position is $90k to $100k annually. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
