Position Summary UX Designer 2 to support SCET’s internal creative agency by designing intuitive, user-centered websites and digital tools that enhance student engagement and program access. Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and other stakeholders, this role is pivotal in delivering user-friendly web experiences for clients and internal stakeholders.

Pay Range Hourly: $39.66 – $55.70

Departmental Overview The Pantas and Ting Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) is the premiere institution at UC Berkeley for the study and practice of entrepreneurship and technology innovation. SCET is globally recognized for developing the Berkeley Method, an internationally recognized approach to teaching technology entrepreneurship to undergraduate and graduate students and to technology firm leadership to professionals and executives.

Responsibilities

User Research & Strategy (25%): Conduct user and stakeholder interviews, surveys, and usability tests to identify pain points and opportunities; synthesize data into actionable insights and design briefs; lead a full redesign of a key SCET or client microsite based on emerging user behavior trends, accessibility compliance, and program growth.

UX/UI Design (25%): Create wireframes, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD; iterate based on user feedback and stakeholder input; ensure accessibility and usability across all screens; develop a UX framework that accommodates multiple SCET program types under one cohesive digital experience while addressing unique journeys.

Client Collaboration & Design Thinking (20%): Lead internal client meetings, facilitate workshops, and co‑create design solutions for SCET programs; apply design thinking to generate innovative ideas.

Website Development Collaboration (15%): Partner with developers to ensure design fidelity and usability in implementation; review staging builds and provide design QA; assist with light front‑end coding (HTML/CSS/JS) if needed.

Visual Asset Creation (10%): Design graphic and visual elements that support the user experience; ensure brand consistency across web assets.

Accessibility & Performance Testing (5%): Conduct audits for web accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and performance; recommend improvements.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience or training.

Understanding of the user‑centered design process (user research, needs assessment, modeling, design, usability evaluation, and developer relations).

Knowledge of design principles, guidelines, and relevant policies including web accessibility standards.

Skill in diagramming, prototyping, and using design tools.

Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non‑technical personnel at various levels.

Effective time‑management skills.

Self‑motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team; demonstrates problem‑solving skills and meets deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic web and/or software development skills.

Salary & Benefits This is a 100% FTE career position eligible for full benefits. The budgeted hourly range is $39.66 to $55.70. A comprehensive benefits package is available through the University of California’s Compensation & Benefits website.
