About the Department The College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD) offers B.F.A., M.A., Ph.D. degrees in Art Education and a Graduate Certificate in Museum Education. The Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies (IADS) program offers B.A. degrees with concentrations in Arts Management, Design Management and an Open Track. These programs prepare students for careers in arts and design professions and for advanced study. Position Overview The Chair leads the merged Department of Art Education and the Interdisciplinary Arts and Design Studies Program, shaping strategy, advancing research and creative activity, and supporting the growth of both entities. Responsibilities include redesigning the Ph.D. program, facilitating curricular innovations, managing financial and personnel matters, representing the department, recruiting and supporting faculty and students, active participation in fundraising, teaching one class each semester, and reporting to the Dean and CVAD associate deans. Responsibilities Provide visionary leadership for the merged Department and Program. Collaborate on redesigning the Ph.D. program and expanding its scope. Advise and support faculty, staff, and students, fostering interdisciplinary engagement. Manage fiscal and personnel issues, ensuring effective use of resources. Represent the department to internal and external constituencies and serve as a key partner in fundraising initiatives. Teach one class per semester. Report to the Dean and work closely with CVAD associate deans, other department chairs, the Foundations Director, and faculty. Minimum Qualifications Terminal degree in Art Education, Arts and Design Administration, Interdisciplinary Arts and Design, or a related field; professional experience sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of collaborative administrative leadership and program development within a university. Effective communication skills and ability to partner in curriculum building and arts advocacy. Track record of leadership in teaching, research, and public engagement.
