Set up under the auspices of the Good Friday Agreement, Tourism Ireland plays an important role as a North South body for a key industry on the island of Ireland, serving both Northern Ireland and Ireland. Role Purpose of the role: To generate positive publicity for the island of Ireland as a world‑class tourism destination, and ensure strong brand appeal among US consumers, via the development of a planned programme of targeted activities. Work alongside managers, publicity and communications teams to develop and activate publicity strategy. Organise and oversee PR activities and ensure effective communication with stakeholders, media and consumers. To monitor and report clearly and effectively on publicity activities, track results to establish performance against agreed targets. Note: This role will involve some travel and work outside normal business hours. Key Results Area Identify, engage, and cultivate interest among journalists and influencers to visit Ireland and participate in key media events both in Ireland and in the US. Collaborate with Manager, Publicity and Communications team to plan, coordinate, and execute a program of in‑person events and promotions such as Annual Marketing Plan launch, Ministerial visits, media receptions, campaign launches etc. Organize and accompany group press trips and film crews on location as required, ensuring smooth logistics and effective media engagement. Develop and maintain media platforms and itineraries in partnership with Tourism Ireland’s sister agencies Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland to maximize media impact. Build and nurture strong relationships with colleagues, industry stakeholders, and media contacts, including responding promptly and effectively to media inquiries. Key Account Management – source and manage key Tier One media contacts, ensuring accurate and up‑to‑date records in collaboration with the PR team. Identify and develop new media contacts aligned with business priorities (luxury, outdoor activities, sustainable travel, Business Events), including proactive outreach through attendance at media networking events such as International Media Marketplace (IMM), Outdoor Writers of America Association (OWAA) TBEX etc. Track media coverage, ensuring all outputs are captured effectively by Tourism Ireland service providers, and maintain BPI reports for ongoing performance review and adjustments. Assist in implementing Tourism Ireland’s US Digital Publicity strategy in collaboration with PR teams, managing digital, social, and influencer partnerships, creating and distributing digital‑first content, and exploring new digital opportunities. Oversee day‑to‑day press office operations including budget administration, correspondence management, reporting, and providing journalists with research, ideas, and supporting information for media assignments. Assist the Communications Manager in training and supporting the departmental intern with internal database use, reporting, and evaluation tools. Ensure compliance with GDPR policies and procedures within the scope of your responsibilities. Represent Tourism Ireland at industry, press, and corporate events as required. Perform additional duties as reasonably requested by the company. The Person The successful candidate will possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and qualifications: A third level qualification in Marketing /Communications/Business or Media Studies. Experience and record of achievement in a media relations / PR Officer or similar role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Track record of developing and delivering innovative and impactful presentations as well as an ability to produce high quality written reports and media materials, such as press releases, media pitches, briefing material, speeches, web casts, etc. Digital media skills – video and photo editing, blog administration, social media management. Experience managing media relations (online, broadcast & print) Strong project and budget management skills.A track record of building effective relationships with on and offline media, influencers, bloggers and PR professionals. Strong interpersonal skills and a team player. Excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise and plan effectively. Budget management experience and demonstrable attention to detail.
