About The Position
The Riverside County Fire Department has an opportunity for a Radio Communications Technician – Level II (IT Communications Technician), located in Perris. The technician will perform repairs of communication repeaters and dispatch radio systems, mobile and handheld radios, keyless security door systems, and telephone network systems, among other duties.
Essential Duties
Install and maintain communication equipment (radio, computer, microwave, telephone) in vehicles, buildings, and remote sites.
Repair, troubleshoot, and resolve malfunctions of radio, computer, telephone, and cabling equipment.
Test and adjust equipment in vehicles and stations to FCC‑specified frequencies.
Coordinate installation and operation of county private telephone systems, 911 systems, and microwave/radio systems with county departments, cities, and telephone companies.
Plan new and revised communication systems, estimate costs, and verify billing accuracy.
Research, evaluate, and test proposed products and system solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
High‑school graduation, GED, or equivalently proposed coursework in computer systems, information technology, or a related field.
Three years of experience with two‑way radios, emergency vehicle work, emergency warning lights (12‑volt wiring), or mobile data computers.
Valid California Driver's License.
Additional Requirements
Physical ability to conduct field and office work; must repair vehicle technical components using hand and power tools.
Capability to travel throughout the county and work extended hours, standby shifts, as required.
