Job Description

The Coordinator, Library Operations oversees nightly operations at the service desk, providing excellent customer service to students, faculty, and the community. The role performs specialized tasks in library software (ExLibris Alma), coordinates events and services during evening and late‐night hours, maintains library stacks, and responds to emergencies and staff issues.

Work schedule: Mondays‑Thursdays 1 p.m. − 12 a.m. first half of fall and spring semesters, 3 p.m. − 2 a.m. before midterms; summer hours 11 a.m. − 10 p.m. The Coordinator reports to the Manager, Library Operations, Access Services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee nightly operation of the library during evening and late‑night hours, ensuring all procedures are followed.
  • Assist library users at the central service desk with inquiries, locating and checking out materials, and reserving study rooms.
  • Refer users to research, technology, and other campus services as appropriate.
  • Provide general information about university services.
  • Monitor library entrance, enforce guidelines, and maintain quiet study zones.
  • Oversee stacks maintenance and re‑shelving of materials.
  • De‑escalate patron concerns following library and university policies, and report incidents to management.
  • Follow proper closing procedures, ensure all exits are cleared and doors are secured.
  • Maintain technical proficiency in library and university software.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and at least two years’ experience in a library. Relevant college coursework may substitute for experience.
  • Preferred: Library experience, experience with Integrated Library Systems (Alma) and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification and Dewey Decimal System.
