Executive Director of Library Operations (MLIS Required)
Join Library Systems & Services, LLC as the Executive Director of Library Operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, strategic planning, and community engagement of Riverside County Library System.
Base Pay: $175,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr (annual)
Responsibilities
Vision and Strategic Leadership- Develop and implement the 2024‑2027 strategic plan in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Integrate strategic goals into budgeting, operations, and staff work plans.
- Lead future multi‑year planning efforts using internal resources.
- Supervise a team of senior managers delivering engaging services.
- Stay current with library leadership best practices and integrate innovative approaches.
- Lead retention, talent development, succession planning, and staff engagement initiatives.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development for all staff.
- Champion exceptional customer service and continuous improvement.
- Cultivate collaboration, transparency, and respect across management levels.
- Lead team‑building initiatives and serve as a visible resource for staff.
- Manage the annual operating and collections budgets and ensure fiscal stewardship.
- Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities, including grants and philanthropic support.
- Support Friends of the Library groups and the Library Foundation.
- Serve as the public face of the library and build relationships with community leaders.
- Promote the library’s role as a center for education, lifelong learning, and literacy.
- Oversee marketing, communication efforts, and representation in regional initiatives.
- Ensure operational management aligns with the mission and strategic priorities.
- Develop procedures and performance indicators aligned with the strategic plan.
- Use LibraryIQ tools and analytics to assess operations, communications, and collections.
- Maintain a balanced collection responsive to community interests.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Prepare annual reports on outcomes and impact.
- Oversee the Edward Dean Museum and Gardens.
- Maintain strong relationships with Riverside County partners and serve as escalation point.
- Provide regular monthly reports and proactive communication with partners.
- Ensure contractual fulfillment and library service delivery.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Studies (MLS/MLIS required).
- Senior managerial experience (5+ years) required.
- Experience coaching and developing managers, managing customer relationships.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Visionary leadership ability and commitment to service excellence.
- Empathetic and inclusive leadership style.
- Proactive problem‑solver focused on continuous improvement.
- Flexible with frequent travel (70%+ of time) to library locations, clients, and potential clients.
- Experience with financial analysis and data application.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent organization and time management.
- Reliable personal transportation; located in Riverside County, CA, or within a 25‑mile radius.
Compensation: $175,000 - $200,000 annually
