Position: Autopsy Technician (Los Angeles County) Examination Number: Y4879A Filing Deadline: December 21, 2022, 9:00 AM (PT); applications accepted until 4:59 p.m. PT on the last day of filing. Essential Job Functions Assist in the performance of autopsies on human cadavers. Prepare specified cadavers or specimens (e.g., liver, brain) for autopsy report photographs and for use in medical training and research. Monitor and maintain autopsy logs, reports, and other documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintain inventory of supplies and safety equipment used during autopsies. Select standard camera and artificial light settings according to photographic manuals to ensure correct exposure. Forward photographs and transparencies to the pathologist for analysis. Utilize handheld or stand-mounted digital cameras to produce quality images according to standard procedures. Photograph cadavers, specimens, and organs as requested, ensuring images meet established photographic standards. Adjust camera and light settings as needed to maintain quality. Inspect photographs for deficiencies (e.g., overexposure), and re-photograph if necessary. Selection Requirements At least six (6) months of experience assisting in the performance of autopsies at the Los Angeles County class of Autopsy Technician level. Training in black‑and‑white, color, and digital camera techniques. Physical class III – Moderate: stand or walk most of the time, bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach; lift objects up to 25 lb; frequent lifting of 10–25 lb. Applicants who possess experience beyond these requirements will receive additional credit. Desirable Qualifications Experience exceeding the selection requirements. Additional training or certifications related to forensic pathology or photographic documentation.
