The Position
San Diego Miramar College, a student‑ready college, invites all qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor, Librarian. Miramar College, a leader in providing student access and success, seeks candidates who are motivated by serving students in a college community and are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Services, the Librarian will collaboratively engage in the planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of various library services and programs, as assigned. This 12‑month San Diego Miramar College faculty position begins at the Assistant Professor level. The libraries share a state‑wide library services platform.
The successful candidate will have responsibility at San Diego Miramar College for cataloging/technical services/systems/electronic resource management and contribute to course specific instruction, class visits, workshops, research consultations (in‑person and virtual), chat reference, reference desk, selecting materials for 10‑15 department liaison areas, and outreach events.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of and professional experience with library services platforms (i.e. ExLibris), including public and staff modules.
Professional experience with original and copy cataloging, using current cataloging rules and practices. (RDA, LCSH, and Library of Congress Classification).
Professional experience working in maintaining a bibliographic database, including authority control processes and procedures.
Professional experience managing, assessing, and supporting all aspects of library systems, software, and technology, including library services platforms and electronic resources. Experience gathering and analyzing statistical data from various vendor platforms, including Springshare and other library content management systems.
Professional experience performing library reference services (both in‑person and virtual), including the use of various reference tools.
Professional experience with library resources and services such as library catalogs, electronic books, online databases, open educational resources (OER), LibGuides, etc.
Knowledge of library instruction methods, principles, and trends.
Knowledge of current collection development and management trends and methods, including faculty liaison relationships.
Knowledge of AI and the applications, potential benefits and challenges, and impacts on libraries within educational settings.
Flexibility and receptiveness to new ideas, methods, duties, or organizational changes.
Experience coordinating activities or collaborating with various areas of the library or with other departments and/or other institutions.
Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals, librarian colleagues, and faculty in a positive and encouraging manner.
Evidence of current professional development activities.
Experience working positively and effectively within a culturally diverse environment.
Willingness to take on new responsibilities.
Serve on faculty committees in support of the library’s mission.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Foreign Degree
Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC. (ACEI). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your online application.

Conditions Of Employment
Submit “official” college transcripts as stated on application (even if a degree is not a requirement for this position);
Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);
Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the District’s expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment);
Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States as required by the I9 Employment Eligibility Verification form;
Attend a new hire processing appointment in People, Culture, and Technology Services located at the District Administrative Offices; AND,
Employed on an initial contract of one (1) year that is eligible for renewal annually for up to a subsequent one‑year period.
