The Hennepin County Elections department is responsible for the administration and supervision of all federal, state, and local elections in the county and 800,000 registered voters. The department is hiring a Communications Election Specialist to manage department communications and development of resources for community and local election partners and voters with the goal of educating residents on voter registration, upcoming elections and ensuring voters are prepared to cast their ballot on Election Day. This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at 625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, in the community, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and are subject to change based on business need. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. This is a full‑time, benefit‑earning position. This position is internally classified as an Administrative Assistant, Intermediate. In this position, you will:

Develop and implement voter outreach and engagement program initiatives for the department to increase voter registration and reduce disparities in voting access among county residents. Manage communications projects to engage voters through paid media campaigns, graphic design, and video production. Plan, develop, and publish social media content to engage voters. Plan and coordinate voter outreach events focusing on communities with lower voter engagement, providing accurate election information and building trust. Maintain and expand collaborative internal and external partnerships, including with the media supporting voter engagement work. Develop and implement specialized training for community partners and internal and external partners across the county and state. Develop resources and outreach materials including handouts, media toolkits, social media pages and newsletter content. Provide supervision and work direction to seasonal staff. Need to have:

One of the following: Six or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. Note: General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets. Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and two or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. Nice to have:

Engaging with diverse communities. Administering elections in Minnesota or another state. Leading or supporting voter engagement programs. Communicating information about elections and voting to the public. Communicating technical information to internal and external partners. Graphic design (creating content for social media, voter informational handouts, and graphics). Creating content for publication (brochures, presentations, reports, websites). In racial, gender, LGBTQIA+, neurodiversity or differing ability equity. Using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Workfront, GovDelivery, and/or similar programs. Knowledge of election statutes, rules, department policy and procedures. Ability to:

Read, interpret, and communicate Minnesota election law and Minnesota election rules. Handle complex and detailed tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Work collaboratively with a diverse group of team members, including internal and external partners. Anticipate potential challenges and risks and generate solutions.
