About This Job
The CarMax Senior Studio & Events Producer is a versatile role encompassing both studio recording and live event video and sound. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining A/V equipment, ensuring high‑quality assets and experiences for recording sessions and live performances.
What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities
Lead Studio Production and Maintenance
Manage all aspects of the studio control room including camera operation, lighting operation, and controlling the images/animations that appear on the large LED wall and flanking monitors.
Run audio set‑ups including microphone choice and placement, and sound mixing for all studio and stage programs.
Provide props and stage settings included in productions.
Program green screens and background replacement (live and recorded).
Maintain and store all raw elements captured in the studio.
Create graphic elements featured in live and recorded programming.
Handle editorial duties for recorded film programs that will be submitted for client approval.
Maintain hardware and software in the studio space, and manage relationships with external vendors such as DVG, Ross, Avid, and FX.
Lead Live Center Stage Events
Lead live camera switching, lighting, audio, and stage direction.
Switch sources between live speakers, remote speakers, PowerPoints/videos, and determine when to use a 2‑box picture‑in‑picture display for remote viewers.
Assist in creating and producing in‑show activities such as games featured during Quarterly Communications Meetings and other company and department events.
Plan and block events to ensure the best possible viewer experience for both in‑person and remote attendees.
Collaborate closely with Technology to ensure all systems work properly and seek continual improvement of the experience and technology.
Build Relationships
Build and sustain effective working relationships internally and externally.
Collaborate with Creative, Technology, and Internal Communications teams to ensure a quality experience for all attendees and viewers.
Partner closely with project managers, producers, and clients to balance multiple projects.
Manage expectations and relationships with Senior Leadership; build trust and communicate strongly, especially when executive talent is involved.
Optimize Resources
Keep all hardware and software up to date and operational.
Ensure software and hardware remain compatible despite inconsistent manufacturer updates and internal internet security regulations.
Maintain positive and trusting relationships with vendors assisting with upgrades, equipment replacement, and more.
Continuously refine the Center Stage experience, addressing audio and lighting challenges specific to the building’s construction.
Common Qualifications And Requirements
Four‑year college degree (BA/BS) in Mass Communication, Broadcasting, Journalism, or a related field preferred, but not required.
Five or more years of experience in production, especially in TV/broadcast news and live event processes and equipment.
Expertise with key hardware and software such as robotic cameras, CueScript teleprompter, wireless microphones, live sound mixing, and broadcast‑level control boards for recording and live events. Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus.
Ability to incorporate feedback and provide clear direction.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Impeccable organizational skills and ability to work independently, manage multiple work streams, and deliver on tight deadlines.
Relentless desire to stay on top of trends and maintain best practices.
Proven ability to collaborate successfully with marketing, product, operations, and other creative teams.
Ability to motivate, influence, and persuade across all levels of the organization.
Ability to build and maintain strong business partnerships and stay connected with various business areas.

Ability to develop, execute, and adjust a plan with a high degree of independence.
