We have the following Library Assistant position open:
1.0 Library Assistant - Secondary Level (Middle Schools)
SUMMARY : The Library Assistant, under the guidance of the Librarian, will be responsible for items such as (1) helping students with independent book selection; (2) running and reviewing patron usage files each month and informing teachers and parents; (3) supporting individuals and large group research projects with Librarian; (4) maintaining and updating print
materials, as well as other duties required in our school libraries.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :
Reports directly to the building principal Works cooperatively with other administrators, supervisors, staff, parents and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 10 month (180 days) Salary (step/level placement) & benefits are as described in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. (starting at $17.60 per hour) QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent necessary Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff and outside professional contacts
Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus; Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

Help students with independent book selection Support class research projects with librarian Assisting librarian in implementing a lesson plan Running and reviewing overdue reports; distributing overdue notices Maintaining and updating print materials, including: entering material on computer, printing barcodes, stamping material, attaching barcode/spine label, covering books Repairing of materials Unpacking and checking in new materials Shelving materials Pulling materials for teacher use Weeding outdated or damaged materials Assisting up to 2 book fairs a year Labeling library shelves; shifting books Training parent volunteers Assisting with inventory Setting up bulletin boards
