The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) appreciates your interest in employment at our growing institution. We want your application process to go smoothly and quickly. Final applications must be submitted prior to the close of the recruitment. No paper is complete without a strong editorial section. It is the job of the Opinion section to ensure readers of The Nevada Sagebrush are presented with a balanced set of well-written, well-argued opinions in every issue they pick up. Applicants should be able to write with a strong voice and be comfortable writing and voicing strong opinions. Applicants should also have a basic understanding of media ethics and media law, especially as they pertain to reporting on a college campus. Applicants are expected to be able to write articles throughout the week and publish articles regularly on the Nevada Sagebrush website. All applicants must submit 3-5 clips with their application. Clips must be work samples and 1000 words or less. Argumentative essays will be accepted. Responsibilities

Write, edit and curate content for the Opinion section and update website content throughout the week Content should be local-oriented, and columns dealing with state and national stories should either be localized or run in moderation Recruit and maintain relationships with contributing writers The Opinion Editor is the primary editor for any and all contributor op-eds It is up to the section editor to assign individual deadlines to individual writers No matter what individual deadlines are, all work being published in the Tuesday print edition must be in to the Copy Desk by 12 PM Sunday Online-first or online-exclusive articles are assigned deadlines on an article-by-article basis, but it is the editor's responsibility for enforcing these deadlines The Opinion section is highly dependent on contributor work, and thus management of and relationships with contributing writers is critical. The editor should be willing to solicit for new contributors Assist in page layout, design and editing during Monday deadlines Ensure all opinion content is posted to the Nevada Sagebrush website in a timely manner Required Qualifications

Candidate must be a student of the University of Nevada, Reno. Candidate must maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 15 credits Candidate should have experience with AP style, strong voice when writing, and work well under deadline. Candidate should be familiar with current Sagebrush work (articles, multimedia, social media) Candidate should have experience writing headlines, or experience with or knowledge of SEO and the elements of a good headline. Candidate should have experience writing copy for social media, especially Facebook and Twitter Preferred Qualifications

Candidate has experience with Adbe Creative Cloud (especially InDesign) Candidate has experience with multimedia programs (Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects) Schedule: 6 hours per week Compensation: Student Employee Level 1 Qualified individuals are encouraged to apply immediately.
