Teacher – Music (Long-Term Substitute, K‑8) (SY25‑26)
Position is posted by Boston Public Schools. The role is a long‑term substitute music teacher for kindergarten through eighth grade, reporting to the principal/head of school. The start date is immediate; the assignment ends at the close of the 2025‑2026 school year.
Responsibilities
Teach music instruction to students in grades K‑8.
Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons that meet state and district standards.
Core Competencies
Accountability for Student Achievement – set ambitious goals, assess progress, and adjust instruction.
Passionate and optimistic about students, content, and the profession.
Demonstrate mastery of music content and effective pedagogy.
Relate music to real‑world settings and other academic disciplines.
Use creative, engaging instruction aligned to standards.
Scaffold and differentiate to meet diverse learning needs.
Engage students through challenging, motivating practices.
Create an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued.
Respect diverse backgrounds and maintain a respectful classroom culture.
Communicate with families and build collaborative relationships.
Reflect on practice, seek feedback, and participate in professional learning communities.
Qualifications – Required
Bachelor’s degree.
Valid Massachusetts teaching license in music (All Levels).
All state and federal licensing requirements met.
Current authorization to work in the United States.
Demonstrated ability to meet Boston Public Schools’ Standards of Effective Teaching.
Qualifications – Preferred
Teaching experience in urban school settings.
Fluency in an official BPS language (Spanish, Creole, Haitian‑Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali).
Certification in moderate disabilities and/or English as a second language at appropriate grade levels.
Compensation & Benefits Annual salary range: $75,000 – $95,000 (full‑time assignment).
