Designer — Soft Wovens / Dresses
Role Overview: You will be responsible for designing the seasonal collection of soft woven dresses and related garments (e.g., refined wovens, midi/maxi dresses, feminine silhouettes). You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams (merchandising, technical design, product development, sourcing, marketing) to deliver finished product that meets design vision, quality, cost, timing, and commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities Creative & Conceptual
Develop seasonal concept boards, colourways, fabric/trim story, silhouette story specifically for the soft woven — dress category, consistent with the brand’s DNA.
Stay abreast of market and trend research (runway, retail, street, fabric innovation) and translate into design direction that is both aspirational and commercial.
Sketch original dress and soft woven garment designs; prepare flats for development; present to leadership and stakeholders.
Design & Development
Lead design for your category: from initial sketches to line-sheet, proto, fittings, revisions, approved pre‑production, and bulk sign‑off.
Source and select fabrics, trims, and details for soft wovens (e.g., linens, silks, cotton blends, woven textures) and dresses. Ensure alignment with cost/margin goals and brand quality standards.
Work collaboratively with Technical Design to ensure fit, construction and finish meet brand standards. Participate in fit sessions, approve samples and refinements.
Manage design calendar for this category: ensure deadlines are met (concept, sign‑off, sourcing, proto, PP, bulk). Escalate delays or risks proactively.
Maintain strong understanding of costing, margin impact, material lead times, and supplier capabilities to make informed design decisions.
Cross-functional & Commercial
Work closely with Merchandising to ensure assortment planning (quantity, size, price‑point) aligns with business goals and consumer demand.
Partner with Sourcing/Production to ensure supplier capabilities support design intent (fabric weight, weave construction, finishing, wash/texture) and timing constraints.
Collaborate with Marketing/E‑commerce to ensure imagery, campaigns and presentation reflect the design story and integrity of product.
Monitor sell‑through data, trend performance, and consumer feedback to inform design decisions (e.g., silhouette renewal, fabric refresh, drop cadence).
Teamwork & Execution
Be a strong communicator and problem‑solver: navigate changes in development, handle material delays, provide creative alternatives when required.
Maintain organization of your design files, line‑sheet, tech packs and archive. Ensure proper documentation and version control.
Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture: share ideas, mentor junior designers/assistants in your category as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3–5 years of design experience in women’s ready‑to‑wear, especially soft wovens and dresses (ideally in a contemporary or premium brand).
Strong portfolio showing sophisticated dress design and execution from concept to production — with clear understanding of fabrics, drape, silhouette, finishing.
Solid technical knowledge of garment construction (soft woven fabrics, dress builds, drape, pleats, linings, etc.).
Proficiency in design tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketching by hand beneficial. Comfortable creating flats, line‑sheets, tech packs.
Excellent trend‑forecasting and market awareness, with ability to translate into commercially viable design.
Strong organizational skills: able to manage multiple styles, timelines, prototypes, and revisions under tight deadlines.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills — able to articulate design vision to cross‑functional teams and suppliers.
Business acumen: understanding cost/margin implications of design decisions, material sourcing, fit cycles.
Passion for the brand aesthetic and ability to contribute fresh ideas while maintaining brand integrity.
