This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. The Tooling Design Engineering (TE) group at Blue Origin is seeking a Technical Specialist with expertise in modeling, drafting, and mechanisms design. This specialist will collaborate with a team of engineers to design components, create conceptual models and engineering drawings, and facilitate the proper release and management of design packages. The TE group works directly with flight designers, production teams, and other test and operational groups. We emphasize teamwork, coordination, and service to support all Blue Origin initiatives. We are looking for someone who can apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to make a positive impact on safe human spaceflight. Develop high-quality production, development, test, integration, and manufacturing tooling for the Blue Engines, New Glenn, and Lunar business units Manage projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion Integrating mechanical design concepts and principles across various projects in a dynamic environment, with projects differing in size and scale Interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating engineering drawings Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines Collaborate with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment) Facilitate effective and collaborative communication by fostering creativity and using team member strengths Qualifications
Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space! 7+ years of work or project experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test Experience using CAD, both creating 3D models and technical drawings, preferably within NX Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), including experience taking products from development design to rate production Desired
Experience with NX and/or Creo, and Windchill or similar CAD software Experience with mechanical and weldment design and component integration Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel Excellent communication skills, able to present technical information effectively to various audience sizes Knowledge of ASME Y14.100, Y14.5 Experience with ASME Y14.41 Model Based Definition Proven understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines, including CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc. Familiarity with industry standards, such as ASME BTH-1, ACI 318, AISC, ADM Experience with custom machine design: motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, etc. Culture Statement
