Job Title: Library Associate

Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time, Not Benefit Eligible
Location: Marshalltown Community College
Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour
Schedule: Less than 19 hours a week
Summary: The purpose of this position is to assist library patrons with resources, materials, research requests and computer questions. This includes providing support to library staff and patrons, representing the college in a positive manner with prospective, current, and former students, employees, and the community. This position may open/close the library depending on shift assignment.
Job Duties:
Education and Experience: High school or high school equivalency diploma required, Associate's degree preferred. One year related experience required, three years of experience in an office environment preferred. Experience can be substituted for education. Education can be substituted for experience.
Abilities: Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Ability to communicate effective orally and in writing using business English. Knowledge of library procedures and protocols. Skill in independent decision making, ability to exercise good judgment, and use critical thinking. Ability to work in an environment of shifting priorities, frequent interruptions, hectic pace, interaction with students, staff, and the public. Knowledge of computer software programs, which may include Word, Excel, PowerPoint; library, learning management system and other district software products; and software downloaded onto student computers for specific courses. Skills to work independently as well as be a collaborative team player in completing assigned tasks and meeting deadlines. Skills to handle moderately to highly confidential matters and materials with discretion. Skills in excellent customer service including phone and in-person reception etiquette. Proficiency with office machines including printers, copiers, FAX, etc. Must abide by FERPA regulations and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Financial Authority: Handle cash transactions; prepare and process purchase orders. Manage inventory, property, or loss control.

Job Duties:
- Assists students with accessing and using library resources.
- Catalogs and processes books and other library materials, creates labels and date due slips for books, laminates covers of books, etc.
- Assists students on computers and monitors computer area. Reports computer problems to the Helpdesk.
- Acts as Test Proctor as needed.
- Supports daily operations by maintaining a clean and organized shop and inventory space and completing sales transactions through the POS system.
