Job Duties:
The Library Technical Services Assistant will provide a wide range of complex support for library technology and systems, acquisitions and cataloging, and the libraries' course reserve service.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Hires, trains, and guides student employees and monitors student workflows
- Provides complex support to the day-to-day operations of library services to provide guidance in the use of library information resources, operations, and policies; or to acquire, prepare, and preserve library information resources for use
- Interprets policies and procedures to answer non-routine questions and resolve complex issues
- Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
- Utilizes designated library systems, tools, standards, and practices to locate, retrieve, and organize; or describe, edit, preserve, and reformat a variety of library information resources
- Participates in committee work within the library and the university
- May create invoices, process complex orders, and resolve any purchasing discrepancies
- May assist and educate both face-to-face and remote customers in the use of technologies and tools to create, seek, use, and manage information
- Conducts reference searches to locate relevant materials and answer questions as needed
- Utilizes library software and systems to retrieve, enter, and report on data using a wide variety of applications
- Provides complex library services support in absence of a supervisory authority. Acts as a resource to other library staff
University Libraries
Compensation:
$17.00 - $18.00/hour, based on qualifications and experience
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to think critically, analyze problems, and develop and implement creative solutions
- The ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology
- Ability to utilize technology including software applications, web-based tools, and mobile devices
- Ability to have a strong commitment to library customer service
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, library practices and procedures
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience working in a library.
- Experience working with an integrated library system (e.g., ExLibris Alma/Primo).
