Senior Web Developer – Rebellion Group (Cheshire, UK — semi‑hybrid, 4 days per week)
About the role
Rebellion Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Web Developer to lead the development and maintenance of high‑traffic, scalable web applications. The role requires deep, expert‑level knowledge across the full technology stack, strong architectural insight, and the ability to drive coding standards, mentor teammates, and tackle complex technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and develop highly performant, scalable, and secure web applications.
- Lead technical planning and execution of large, complex features and projects.
- Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and secure coding principles across the team.
- Conduct thorough code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure high code quality and maintainability.
- Drive adoption of new technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve the development process and product performance.
- Write clean, efficient, well‑documented, and testable code for both front‑end and back‑end components.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Ensure application stability, speed, and security through continuous testing and optimisation.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and UX/UI Designers to translate user stories and wireframes into technical specifications and intuitive interfaces.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 (including semantic markup, accessibility WCAG, modern CSS frameworks).
- Expertise in JavaScript, including asynchronous programming, TypeScript and large‑scale application development.
- Experience with at least one major front‑end framework (React, Vue.js, or similar).
- Worked with server‑side runtimes such as Node.js (Express), Python, or PHP (Laravel).
- Strong database skills – relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
- Design and expose RESTful APIs (and optionally GraphQL).
- Version control mastery with Git and GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket.
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Knowledge of CMS platforms (WordPress, Shopify, etc.) and static site generators (Eleventy, Jekyll) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and proven leadership/mentoring experience.
Preferred Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication – able to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proactive, independent thinker who takes ownership of projects and meets deadlines.
- Passion for continuous learning and staying current with emerging web technologies.
Benefits & Working Conditions
Semi‑hybrid schedule; at least 4 days per week in the Cheshire office, with one dedicated Wednesday. Full‑time employment.
