Communications comprises four teams focused on Corporate Reputation & Brand; Commercial Communications; Enterprise & Leadership Communications; and Digital Channels & Content.
Position Overview The Associate Director, Media Relations & Issues Management is accountable for establishing and leading Novo Nordisk's strategic media relations programs across key priorities to enhance visibility and reputation locally and nationally. The role ensures public understanding of the company's mission, business goals and philosophies, identifies and addresses significant issues, and acts as the official spokesperson.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as spokesperson for the company, maintaining key media contacts at national and local levels.
Develop proactive media programs to generate positive coverage across business, healthcare, financial, and consumer press.
Create strategies to leverage new media channels and shape stakeholder perceptions.
Direct development of media strategies, key message platforms, and prepare senior leaders for media interviews and public speaking.
Lead communications excellence activities, including media training, storytelling, and crisis preparation.
Ensure alignment across teams and provide updates on key issues, crises, and trends.
Integrate global and US perspectives in media and issue communications.
Collaborate with senior leadership to drive integrated business and reputational goals.
Measure impact through integrated metrics linked to corporate reputation and business objectives.
Assess potential issues, develop mitigation plans, and counsel leaders on response strategies.
Lead USO crisis response teams as required.
Manage communications budgets and optimize agency spend.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum 12 years of progressive communications experience (public relations, media relations).
Experience in a public relations agency environment and/or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
Proven strategic planning, media relations, and issues/crisis management skills.
Track record of driving business improvement and results.
Ability to work under tight timelines in stressful environments.
Strong business acumen and influence across leadership levels.
Effective project management and stakeholder influence.
Collaborative, cross‑functional, global mindset.
Proficiency in integrated media, social, and digital strategies.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $175,000–$235,000. Eligible for company bonus. Long‑term incentive compensation and/or company vehicles may be offered. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, 401(k) plan, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off.
