Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) powers Microsoft’s cloud platforms and services, providing foundation for Azure, Office 365, and other services. The CO+I Physical Security team delivers highly reliable physical security services to protect personnel, infrastructure, data, and confidential information for the Microsoft Cloud. This position leads high‑profile, business‑critical projects involving physical security systems design, specification, and technical oversight for worldwide critical infrastructure such as datacenters and leased collocations. The role reports to the CO+I Physical Security Delivery Director and collaborates with architects, engineers, security vendors, construction project managers, and customers.

Responsibilities

Implement the design and specification of physical security, alarm systems, access control, video surveillance, burglary, radio systems, and other physical security equipment to achieve program goals for special projects and initiatives.

Review, provide feedback, and approve physical security design documentation produced by Architecture & Engineering (A&E) firms.

Oversee projects to ensure delivery aligns with established baseline requirements, deadlines, and budgets.

Participate in project estimating and contribute to budgeting processes for physical security system needs across groups.

Partner with peer leaders and stakeholders to maintain a unified Microsoft team environment.

Continuously improve the overall physical security program’s efficiency and maturity.

Triage physical security and business‑impacting incidents/events, ensuring appropriate leadership awareness and response.

Collaborate with peers to align with broader strategy, support leadership priorities, and provide trusted advising.

Seek data and recommend strategies to reduce churn, optimize, implement creative solutions, scale, automate, and simplify.

Deliver assigned projects in accordance with requirements, deadlines, and applicable company policies.

Engage with internal and external customers to represent Microsoft’s datacenter physical security programs.

Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and protection of Microsoft information.

Required Minimum Qualifications

4+ years experience in security program or program management or related field, or equivalent experience.

4+ years experience in Physical Security Programs.

3+ years experience in foundational security principles, including alarm, access control, and video surveillance systems.

4+ years experience in security engineering solutions and design, supporting implementation throughout construction project lifecycles.

Other Requirements

Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check and citizenship verification for U.S. federal, state, or local agency customers.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Risks or related field AND 8+ years experience in security program or program management, or equivalent.

Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or equivalent protection certification, or Physical Security Professional (PSP) or equivalent.

Direct experience in engineering, design, and/or installation of security systems in datacenters or other critical infrastructure.

Experience influencing decisions that impact mission‑critical, 24x7 operations.

Demonstrated work ethic, prioritization, and execution in dynamic high‑pressure environments.

Analytical and process improvement skills to produce data‑driven insights and associated process changes.

Thought leadership and subject‑matter expertise delivering large programs and services while increasing standardization, simplification, and automation.

Ability to adapt plans and priorities in response to evolving business environments with awareness to champion course corrections.

Senior Security Design Manager IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $96,500 - $188,400 per year. In the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
