Job Overview Boston University Advancement seeks a Communications Coordinator to increase alumni engagement through varied marketing channels. The role builds and deploys email communications to 350,000+ alumni, manages the Alumni & Friends blog, ensures brand standards, and collaborates across departments.
Responsibilities
Build broadcast emails using approved content marketing solutions, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and apply basic HTML to edit and troubleshoot templates, ensuring proper rendering across devices.
Manage a large set of assigned email projects from start to finish; conduct testing, light copy editing, and review content for accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and brand alignment.
Plan, write, and edit blog posts for the BU Alumni & Friends website and coordinate with freelancers and student employees to produce high‑quality content.
Track progress, communicate updates with colleagues, and adjust priorities to meet shifting deadlines.
Hire, supervise, and mentor student employees supporting editorial and email projects, providing ongoing feedback and professional growth support.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field; or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
1 to 3 years of related experience in digital communications or content creation.
Strong writing and editing skills for email, blog, and web content.
Basic knowledge of email marketing platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, Constant Contact, or similar.
Familiarity with CMS such as WordPress and basic web design principles.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with diverse university colleagues.
Experience supervising student employees, interns, or volunteers (plus).
Experience with digital marketing analytics (plus).
