Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for UICOMP, the Director will bring entrepreneurial drive and ambition to a growing fundraising operation that supports the clinical, educational, and research ambitions of the College of Medicine Peoria, UI Health, and UIC more broadly. The Director will plan, direct, and implement activities to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and planned gifts from individual donors and prospects at the $25,000 level and above, working closely with department heads and faculty to develop strategic fundraising plans.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of 100+ donors and prospects by qualifying, researching, cultivating, and soliciting gifts of $25,000 or more; complete at least 125 substantive actions with prospective donors.
Own and achieve the UICOMP annual fundraising goal, the overall College of Medicine goal, and personal fundraising metrics.
Develop and execute a personal annual advancement plan that includes solicitation of major gifts.
Leverage existing leadership, donors, and opportunities to build new donor bases, focusing on alumni constituents.
Prepare professional presentations and funding proposals for donors as required.
Act as the advancement subject‑matter expert for faculty partners in soliciting gifts.
Coordinate high‑level donor meetings with UICOMP leadership, faculty, and the Chief Advancement Officer.
Lead engagement activities for assigned donors and prospects, prioritizing alumni.
Collaborate with the Senior Directors of Development and Alumni Relations to cultivate and identify alumni for awards and recognition.
Track fundraising progress with the COM Advancement Services team, develop and present research, metrics, and reports on prospect pools and growth.
Maintain the TED (Tracking and Engagement Database) updated with development actions.
Oversee stewardship activities for high‑level donors, including acknowledgment letters and impact reports.
Develop annual stewardship plans and oversee their execution.
Collaborate with COM Alumni Relations and Special Events teams to enhance donor interactions.
Build strong working relationships with academic, clinical, and administrative leadership across the organization.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience.
Track record of personal success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of five figures and above.
Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to translate medical and technical information for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to articulate the UICOMP mission, relevance, and uniqueness to a diverse audience.
Entrepreneurial, strategic thinker with curiosity and recognition of opportunities.
Experience envisioning fundable opportunities and articulating them convincingly to distinct audiences.
Success in identifying new prospects and leveraging leadership and donors to build new donor bases.
Experience working with high‑level volunteers to inspire giving and leverage relationships.
Demonstrated success in building trust with leadership and faculty, proactively managing up and solving problems.
Attention to detail, operational efficiency, and superb follow‑through.
Exceptional diplomacy, discretion, and judgment.
Understanding of diversity and intercultural understanding in achieving excellence.
Knowledge of HIPAA and its development activity requirements.
20% travel required for donor and alumni visits and local/regional events.
