Responsibilities

Marketing Services at Harper College is seeking a creative, collaborative, and social-media savvy student to support the development of engaging content for the College's primary social channels. This role is ideal for a student interested in marketing, communications, media, or digital storytelling. The Student Social Media Assistant will help monitor current trends, pitch creative ideas, and produce timely, high-quality content that supports Harper's brand and student engagement efforts. The position also assists with large-scale marketing campaigns, event promotion, and general marketing operations.Provide general assistance as determined by the department. Content Creation & Publishing

Develop photo, video, and written content for Harper's official social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). Tailor content to align with platform best practices and audience engagement strategies. Assist with scheduling and posting content as needed.

Trend Monitoring & Idea Development

Track emerging social media trends, challenges, features, and formats relevant to student audiences. Present ideas and creative concepts during team meetings and brainstorming sessions. Support experimentation with new formats or storytelling styles.

Campaign & Event Support

Assist the marketing team with college-wide campaigns Provide on-site event coverage (photo/video capture, live posting, short interviews, etc.). Help develop recap content that highlights student life and key campus moments.

Administrative & Team Support

Help with daily marketing operations such as digital asset organization, content planning, and platform research. Support cross-department requests for social media features or event visibility. Collaborate professionally with marketing staff and student contributors.

Qualifications

Current Harper College student in good standing (all majors welcome; communications/marketing majors encouraged). Familiarity with major social media platforms and current student-facing trends. Excellent writing, storytelling, or visual communication skills. Comfortable capturing photo/video content around campus. Reliable, organized, and able to meet deadlines. Willingness to learn new tools and workflows.
